I know, I saw that too. I was thinking something like the Audi in I, Robot? Some sort of gyroscopic wheel.

Why would they need to? They aren't touching the ground.
It looks like the casters underneath it probably turn though.
Not enough cargo space for me, but thumbs up if it lasts a long time and doesn't break.
Think i'll stick to bikes, car manufactures would save alot of money if they'd stop making concepts that they just use the mirrors off of.

Excerpt from the article...
"The interior of the BIOME grows from the DNA in the Mercedes star on the front of the vehicle, while the exterior grows from the star on the rear. To accommodate specific customer requirements, the Mercedes star is genetically engineered in each case, and the vehicle grows when the genetic code is combined with the seed capsule. The wheels are grown from four separate seeds,†Mercedes-Benz explained.
Once on the road the vehicle would run on "BioNectar4534" stored in the car's BioFibre, of which the only by-product is oxygen."
Sounds like some pretty far out there stuff, albeit very interesting. I'd like to think that science is right on the verge of completely self-sustainable products but I would've never thought they'd be able to conceive of a "chia-car". It's gonna be very interesting to see where science goes in the next 15-30 years!!

Right.
You do realize they said it was a 2310 concept and not a 2030 concept?

Yeah, I realize that. I'm the one who originally posted this. [thumbsup]
My above comment was eluding to the fact that modern humans have been around for more than 50,000 years and most if not all of our significant scientific advancements have been made in the last 50-60. So given our current rate of advancement, again, I'd say it's somewhat easy to expect some pretty significant discoveries in the next 15-30 years.

"Unfortunately and ironically these stars are made from what is remaining of the ozone layer but ya know" Said a Mercedes spokes-woman. When asked for further comment she stated,"Can't make an omelet without killing a few people"
Bet she'll do the Kessl run in less than 12 parsecs.

"Mercedes Benz' concept car the Biome is on the forefront of being developed and expectations are it would be released some time in 2015. It is speculated to be indirect competition of what BMW is developing, their Vision EfficientDynamic car. There is stiff competition now among German car manufacturers, including Audi, for supremacy on eco-friendly motorcars!"
