Title: Color pre-vis for tank repaint and frame (photoshop)
Post by: csorin on December 04, 2010, 10:12:29 PM
My tank has a massive dent in it, and eventually I'd like to send it to Ducpainter for a fix.  In the meantime here are some color schemes I've come up with including anodizing and powdercoating rearsets/etc.  Just wondering what you guys think.

I kind of like A1 - the brown seat is kind of cool, but PC the headlight bucket/bracket/ring same color as the tank and use a regular Monster or GT1000 front fender. Nice vintage style to it [thumbsup]

I like the gold forks without reflector.  Second tank gets my vote.

Hey, right on.  Thanks guys for all the opinions.  Whether I go black or silver is the big debate in my head.  The silver scheme with brown seat is pretty cool in a retro sort of way, but the black with yellow stripes is just straight up aggressive.

I'm also wary of blacking everything out.  I really like the look of bronze colored engine/clutch covers.  Eh, decisions decisions.  Still need to try some different paint configs on the tank.

I have a LuiMoto seat cover that's brand new in pearl white if you want to consider white as a seat color option....it's excellent quality I just bought the wrong item by mistake. :(

Hey guys,

No progress to speak of in the real world, but I've still been mulling over color schemes.  I was looking around the Radical Ducati site, and found some inspiration from a few of their amazing bikes.

http://www.radicalducati.com/index.php?page=home (http://www.radicalducati.com/index.php?page=home)

Here's what I came up with.  Most hyped on the white tank with the crazy stenciled Ducati.  I also hastily lowered the headlight, added some clipons and rearsets, and wrapped the headers.

Also, a red framed version in case I ever got crazy and completely disassembled the bike:

Red trellis one close to perfect, very clean!
Not sure about the logo, though.

I agree.

It's too large for a Monster tank.

Humorless, I'm glad this thread got your attention.  Frosty Finishes is on the top of my list for tank repair and painting.  When the funds are available, I'll be sending you the work.

As for the font size and placement, I really liked the following Radical Ducati:

Granted, the 749 tank has a massive, generally flat surface to work with, but I like how the font wraps around the different planes.  I'll do some pre-vis with a different tank angle.

I've been quietly watching.

Keep in mind it doesn't matter what any of us think...even though we'll all put in our .02...

it's your bike after all. ;)

same here. if you removed the side panels to show the full frame, you would be even closer to the radical ducati look.

Agreed.  That red frame freakin pops.  Covering it up just kind of interrupts the whole visual sequence.  Even with the black frame though, those plastics just muddy the whole thing up a bit.

Hey guys.  Yes...I'm still on this.  Funds are tight, and I'm spending what could have fixed the tank on a superbike front end conversion, clip-ons and all.  In the meantime, I did up some more paint scheme pre-vis last night.

Inspiration comes from again, Radical Ducati, the Paul Smart Ducatis, and an awesome 1098 race bike:

And here are the ideas.  These stemmed from a want to have white, red, black and gold all in one color scheme.

I actually really like how blacking out the front of the tank brings weight to the front of the motorcycle.  The problem with that was integrating the gold stripes, gas tank cap, and black chunk.  It's not very elegant.

Where I landed in the bigger picture is a bit brighter than I was hoping for, but it has a nice forward thrust with the long black stripe.

Hey thanks man. I'm a concept artist for videogames.  Been doing it for a little over six years now.

I'm not sold on the brown seat with a white tank.  I'm digging the middle one for now (black stripe down middle of tank, flanked by gold vertical bars).  If I could figure out an elegant solution to blacking out the front half of the tank, I'd go for that.

Ah, right on!  I like how he placed the vertical line between both tank cuts and stopped it short of the gas cap like the old Paul Smarts.

As of now, my wife and I have decided on 7.  It's fairly straight forward, but the font and color choices should make it pop.  Just need to finish up my SBK forks and save some coin for the tank.  Easier said than done :P

Found a bike that is good inspiration for my build.  With a little color edit, I'm able to visualize my goal.

Can anyone identify this single sided pipe?  I wouldn't mind changing out my underseat exhaust for a gp style monopipe.
