Title: High Country-Snowies Ride 10-15/12/10 Post by: heatherp on December 06, 2010, 04:27:26 PM Small group ride (2 so far ;D). Meeting Bonegilla (Albury-Wodonga) Friday 10 Dec and spending the next 5 days riding all the fav roads around.
Granya Pass, Murray Vally Hwy, Murray Valley road, Alpine Way, Snowy River Way, Bonang Hwy, Great Alpine Road, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham. And anything else we can think of inbetween. Mostly sealed roads. Little bit of good unsealed. [moto] Weather forecast is looking very promising. [clap] Anyone else want to join in. Be quick as I'm planning accommodation right now. [thumbsup] Title: Re: High Country-Snowies Ride 10-15/12/10 Post by: mattyvas on December 06, 2010, 04:55:25 PM Dam you H :'(

I have some points left (I think [roll]) Title: Re: High Country-Snowies Ride 10-15/12/10 Post by: cakeman on December 06, 2010, 07:33:22 PM Am planning on some touring in Jan/Feb Me too, Looking to do 3-4 days away Title: Re: High Country-Snowies Ride 10-15/12/10 Post by: heatherp on December 20, 2010, 01:34:40 AM Okay time to post up maps & photos I suppose. (seeing as I have been reminded ;D). Weather and roads were so good last week that it's depressing to be home with the rain, hail and snow. To think that last weekend on Mount Hotham was sunny and warm but this weekend it was covered in 10cm of snow.:o Glad I didn't have to ride in that. Not very many photos were taken due to lots of riding being done instead.
So the trip went pretty much as planned apart from the road to Cabramurra being closed on the first day so a different route was taken then two days later the road was open so up it we went which made the day a little longer than planned (491kms - sorry Gino [roll]) which was good practice for me as I rode 780kms the next day to get home [moto] All the roads in the mountains are okay. Heaps of landslips on the way up Falls Creek but the road surface was practically clear of debris by the time we went through. I had a friend recommend the Red Bank Rd (Gundowring Rd) as an alternative to the Keiwa Valley Hwy. It's also listed in the Motorcycle atlas. I found the road absolutely boring apart from the river running through a farm driveway. The only other entertainment along this road was someone getting stung by a bee and, being allergic to bees, ripping clothes off on the side of the road to get the sting out and trying to be clothed again by the time the other rider turned back. Almost managed it. [laugh] [laugh] So here's the biz: Photos here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/heatherp64/sets/72157625636530724/with/5276839586/), Day 1 Bonegilla-Jindabyne 302kms (http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=209687874795420052259.000497bd584eb61f4d61e&z=9), Day 2 Jindabyne-Lakes Entrance 327 kms (http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=209687874795420052259.000496eee1002aae5fb95&ll=-37.147182,148.480225&spn=2.408116,5.795288&z=8), Day 3 Lakes Ent-Omeo 365kms (http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=209687874795420052259.000497bdabb0213af7e09&z=9), Day 4 Omeo-Tumut 491kms (http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=209687874795420052259.000497bd1a53d342e2890&z=8) The only thing I would change would be to go to Adaminaby and back to Jindabyne on day 4 instead of going to Tumut. But it was fun anyway. Title: Re: High Country-Snowies Ride 10-15/12/10 Post by: Betty on December 20, 2010, 02:58:16 AM Looks like you had fun ... some of those roads look vaguely familiar.
I remember the trip down from Falls Creek to the Oh-me-oh-my Highway being pretty treacherous ... sounds better now. At one point you were only five minutes from Bazz's ... not tempted to drop by for some roo jerky? Buggar. Would have liked to have caught up with Bazz. Didn't have his address tho.Title: Re: High Country-Snowies Ride 10-15/12/10 Post by: spotcom on December 20, 2010, 11:33:44 PM Beautiful photos.
