Title: Dealer is asking "ME" how to lower my m620
Post by: DucRS on December 08, 2010, 10:28:48 AM
I recently bought my wife an 05 620 and I'm preparing to give it to her for Xmas but before I give to her I need to lower it about an 1" or so because she's vertically challenged, just over 5'.
I call the Dealer to set up an appt. to have it done; thinking it wasn't a big deal and he says he may not be able to do it due to clearance issues, the 620 is at it's lowest stock, bla bla bla.... He then proceeds to ask me " If I figure out how to lower it let him know" along with parts #"s >:(
 1. Can it be lowered?
 2. What do I need?
 3. How can it be done (explain it to Dealer)?
 4. Is Dealer full of shite?

i think you can pull the forks up through the triple that is no problem.

the problem is the rear height link on the back is a fixed rod length.

i think i have read that other people have bought an adjustable rear link that lets them change the lenght of the rod thereby lowering the rear height also, but not sure who sells that aftermarket.

yes there are lowering rods avaible. and yes you can lower the forks in the clamp.  Just remember that if you lowere it to much there can be clearence issues with speed bumps, header clearence, and foot pegs.  If you can get away with it I'd start by shaving the seat.  nice dealer [bacon]

1. Covered
2. Covered.
3. pretty covered
4. Yes. It's not rocket science to lower a 620 or any monster and one can take it down about an inch before you get in real troubles.

But, since your dealer is a dip, I propose an alternative. MangledBug wrote a great tutorial on how to make a lowered (shaved) gel seat from the stock seat.

- She's about the size of your wife and the mod worked well for her, only cost a few bucks and some time. Another up side is you retain the ground clearance. Lowered monsters are known to be a bit 'scrapey'

Having worked at a dealer for quite a while i'm usually against the posts about how your dealers an idiot and to go find a
new one...as most things can be difficult to explain over the phone and the amount of crap you have to put with with people screwing with you and the number of calls asking how to put gas in the bike etc.

That said, find a new shop, this is a very simple procedure for a shop. If they're a ducati dealer and haven't ben asked or suggested this before, they're clearly idiots.

..that is all

+1 to the ride height rod and lower the triples...rods can be picked up off ebay from 748's and such that are adjustable and should fit.
