With disastareous consequences......."here, hold my gun, watch this"
Bike Cop Crashes Down Stairs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zocup-RIZKU#normal)
ouch
There's no way Id do that on a bike.
Well, ok. I might try it ;D
That level of stupidity hurts my brain.
Hmm looks like it might have been part of training... guess they should train no front brakes in a situation like that.

Training? Seriously??
That just spells trouble.
Besides, Jack Bower never had to do that.

what do you want to bet its permanently embeded in his head now? lol
i have no idea what type of training that was, everyone knows that you don't put that much front brake on going down stairs and that much weight forward either or else exactly that happens.
maybe it was training on how to crash and survive, because there was absolutely nothing tactical or advantageous to doing what the guy did going down the stairs.
I've seen experienced mountain bikers do that before...........heck 2 nights ago, I was descending a bridge and needed to scrub off some speed, but for some reason I grabbed the front brake a bit too hard......mental eff-up I guess
One one think he would have at least shifted his weight back... I've had to shift back so far before I was basically behind the seat almost sitting the tire ~
JM
The new training is designed to try and catch suspects who try and evade Police by beating down the stairs at city hall on XR 650's or HM's
[evil]
Wonder how many teeth he spit out afterwards? Did no one tell him to get his weight back over the rear wheel? I'm guessing that's the first and only time he's done that. I'm also guessing he didn't pass the class. [laugh]
It was a training class. They have special training for bike officers. Remind me not to go to that one.

Experienced doesn't necessarily mean skilled...that's a no-brainer there.

This sounds like a challenge
Stairs are actually pretty simple. Keep your weight back, use little to no front brake, keep the handlebars straight, and let the suspension do the work. That being said, I don't go down narrow stairs with guardrails right by me just because the consequences for failure are pretty bad. Reference exhibit A.
San Antonio had a bike cop training course right next to one of the better local trails. It was awesome blowing past them and seeing the look of terror in their eyes. wasn't even at all technical. Of course though I met a Louisville area cop a few weeks back riding a Titus Loco Moto on a local trail. He'd do just fine.
Stairs are pretty simple down (and up as well if you ride trials). Definately need weight further back going down.
To give the LEO a little credit, the pack on the rack would restrict his ability to shift weight back.
(hey, I made a rhyme :))

I've touched my ass to the back tire riding down stairs more than a couple of times.
It usually happens at the bottom of the flight with a good bit of speed though.
I'm with everyone else. Rookie MTB mistake.
...and if you can't get far enough back behind the seat (bags, etc.) than get as far back as possible and commit (=fingers off the brakes).
If you're a bike cop, you should be able to go down stairs, up stairs, and all the places in between (wheel chair ramp?) [laugh]. If you can't....then you're heading to segway cop training [moto]
