Title: wheel swap 05 620 Post by: atomic410 on December 14, 2010, 09:26:00 AM I have an 05 620 that i want to put a lighter rear wheel on. short of going full aftermarket what is a direct swap in. does an st2/4 whell directly swap in? what years and other models? it has to swap right in due to how this is a racebike and wheels get swapped between races and possibily during and f'n with spacers/adaptors isnt an option. Title: Re: wheel swap 05 620 Post by: Speeddog on December 14, 2010, 10:03:49 AM The OEM 5-spoke wheels are lighter than the 3-spokers.
But.....AFAIK, all of the 5-spoke rears are 5.5" wide, while your 620 came with a 4.5" wheel. Are your tire guys OK with a 165 tire on a 5.5" wheel? Title: Re: wheel swap 05 620 Post by: atomic410 on December 14, 2010, 10:53:44 AM that is the recomended rim width per dunlops website for the 165 slick. really i should be running a 150 on the monster rim but what on track tire distributor stocks those and the dunlop 125 front 165 rear are the best tires i've ridden on it, 2 second difference, no kidding. those fronts have saved me from crashing many times. I can also run a 180 on the 5-5.5 and sport tire services stocks those for the sv guys. I have a stack of 165s I want to burn through 1st before switching to a 180 though. 2010 was a good year for tire payouts for me. I sourced a magnesium marvic front and am gonna run a oem marchesini in the rear until I deside if i'm gonna shoe in a 800 motor next year or see if i come across a ss on the cheep. the fronts have more diversity than the rears between these bikes. so a st 5 spoke marchesini rear bolts right up? thats what i'm looking for?
Title: Re: wheel swap 05 620 Post by: Speeddog on December 14, 2010, 02:26:59 PM A 5-spoke aluminum Marchesini in 5.5" width from an ST4, ST4s or S4 will fit your bike.
Those bikes have a sprocket carrier with more offset, to clear a 180 width tire. You may not need that carrier to clear a 165 slick on that rim. If you use the wider carrier, you need to flip the front sprocket to 'flat side out'. That may present a problem, as then the chain won't be centered on the rub strip on the swingarm. Title: Re: wheel swap 05 620 Post by: atomic410 on December 15, 2010, 06:37:49 AM seems i have plenty of clearence between the chain and tire with the 4.5 right now. I'm thinking clearence wont be a problem. thanks [bacon]
Title: Re: wheel swap 05 620 Post by: Roaduser on December 18, 2010, 05:48:05 AM what stops a 749 or 999 rear wheel from fitting? i understand they have a different sprocket carrier stud pattern, but using the 5 bolt sprocket carrier from a 999 would you get the offset needed to match a dss monster? if that did work, what about the hub width?
Title: Re: wheel swap 05 620 Post by: Roaduser on December 18, 2010, 05:52:30 AM found a very useful thread about my question on the old forum..
http://www.ducatimonster.org/forums/accessories-mods/151612-how-fit-999-749-rear-wheel-m1000s.html (http://www.ducatimonster.org/forums/accessories-mods/151612-how-fit-999-749-rear-wheel-m1000s.html) on a side note, will a 748 front wheel fit a 620-800m? Title: Re: wheel swap 05 620 Post by: atomic410 on December 20, 2010, 07:20:14 AM 748-916/996/998 fronts will fit a monster 620. and the 999/749 rears are too wide of a rim for what i'm looking for. I would like to continue to run a 165 rear slick and not a 190etc. [bacon]
Title: Re: wheel swap 05 620 Post by: atomic410 on January 10, 2011, 07:41:02 AM A 5-spoke aluminum Marchesini in 5.5" width from an ST4, ST4s or S4 will fit your bike. anyone know what the weight difference is on the rear between the 5 spoke and 3 spoke? i think the 3 spoke brembos are like 18lbs? whats the 5 at? [bacon] Title: Re: wheel swap 05 620 Post by: scooby on January 10, 2011, 09:30:37 AM I have a mint condition (1100 miles) set of 5-spoke aluminum Marchesini in 5.5" width from an S4 for sale; interested?
Title: Re: wheel swap 05 620 Post by: atomic410 on January 10, 2011, 10:23:14 AM maybe, the rear at least. I was thinking about this mag front so how much? are these the oem ones or the forged alum race ones?[bacon]
