This morning I pulled the bike out of the garage and fired it up to warm up before heading to work. Went inside for about 10 mins and when I came back out I smelled a little burning. Not much but enough to get my attention. The temp showed 150 and it was 9F outside.
How long is it safe to run these air cooled bikes at idle while warming them up?
that's fine, 150 is nothing on these bikes.

Right up until it seizes ;D
150 isn't a problem
if you left it idling for 6 hours it may get pissy
Thanks all. I thought I was ok but the smell just concerned me. Going to warm her up now.... 16F!!
why are you riding when its 9 out is the real question. [bacon]

I don't have a car! Well, my wife has a van, my 3 kids each have a car, and I have a bike (Ducati) and a bike (Serotta Concours). So I bought 4 cages and don't get to drive any of them... go figure. But I actually prefer commuting on two wheels, even in the cold. Something freeing about it. And with gear the 6 mile ride is quite comfortable along as it doesn't rain.
