Since I am coming up to my 15K mile service I wanted to start looking at the parts that need replacing and one of them are the belts.
I have seen that ca-cycleworks sells the set for $100 - any experience with them? Good? Bad? Ugly?
I'm cheap - so if I can save from buying OEM I will :-)
Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks.
In OZ the price is about the same as OEM. They hold up a fork lift, that's good enough for me.
Seriously, Chris appears quite committed to getting quality stuff made with a "same price or cheaper and better quality" philosophy.
He is doing the same with Dyna coils at the moment. It's the impressive attitude of "I can't get what I want, make the beast with two backs it I'll get it made myself".
Pretty staunch.
i have'em and haven't had any problems. just recheck the tension at 500 and 1000miles. mine seemed to either slightly loosen or stretch. i'm leaning towards stretch. they weren't in anyway going to fall off. i'm going to buy them again.
just fitted a set to the 696 yes easy to fit does the job and will fit a new set in about 24000kms again the bike has 22000km when i did the job the old belts was very hard new exactfit nice and soft must be the most easy timing belts i have done in my life be working on cars for over 30 years now and i can tell you the ducati 696 timing belts are so easy to fit .... just done timing belts on a 355 Ferrari now thats a big job motor and sub frame out job come to over $A 8000 now that the car had only 12000km on it water-pump leaking so had to remove motor and sub frame so put a set of timing belts too
I see more and more ducati techs using those in place of OEM parts to reduce cost of service invoices...
Good stuff.

Can't really see Chris selling crap stuff. They are on my winter shopping list.
We at Desert Desmo endorse the use of Exact Fit timing belts. [thumbsup]
We only use factory belts when a customer demands them.

2 good experiences using them on my last 9 900ie engines
Replaced my belts with these about a thousand miles ago. Like previous posters said, they stretched a bit after 500 miles, but not to the point of concern. I tightened them up, and they've held strong since. Chris runs a great shop. Super fast shipping, and the videos of basic procedures are priceless. Big thumbs up on these.
used them in 2 bikes ive work on. Never heard anything bad about them hell i have a set sitting on my table right now for a friends bike.! ill be using them for my next belt change.
I have them as well
I was running these belts when one of the fixed rollers came apart. Some of the balls from the bearing passed through the belt while it was running making nice little slits in the belt. The belts did not break. I replaced all the rollers and put another set of these belts on.
Had these belts on since they were released. No issues at all and I would purchase them again.
And Chris is a great guy and supporter of the community so your $$ are going to a good place.
Good timing for this thread, I need to replace my belts this winter. Another order from ca-cycleworks is in the cards.
I haven't used them yet but I'm planning on it when I change my belts. I've talked to Chris in person and totally trust his judgment. If he thinks he's got something good then he probably does. You can always count on him to help make Ducatis as economical as possible without sacrificing quality.
yay
+1 on the belts, +1 on Ca-Cycleworks, a great outfit.

:o :o :o :o :o :o zOMG!! Wow, man, I'm so glad you and your bike are ok! ... and big time thanks to everyone for your support!
Thanks,
Chris
Thanks. Luckily I was not riding it when the bearing failed. It was weird though. I parked it the day before and it was running fine didn't hear anything. I started it the next day to go for a ride and heard a noise from the belt cover. I pulled the cover and saw that the roller had been touching the cover and saw the balls inside the cover. I think I threw the belts away or I would post some pics. I'll see if I can find them.
Cool - I will place an order for these soon.
Thanks for the feedback everyone!
Also have a set on my 2000 M900Sie. Been ordering from Chris for a long time. Very satisfied.
Me too, the CA belts seem to be at least as good as the pricey Ducati belts.
