Title: ... d-a-m thief! garage broaken into; luckey just tools
Post by: DuciD03 on December 15, 2010, 10:18:37 PM
.... I was putting up the Christmas lights last Saturday ... humming some Christmas tunes under my breath ... got; then ran out to do some Christmas errands ... then went to a buddies Christmas due; only slightly indulging in food and cheer ... only to find the next morning a thief got into the garage and cleaned out my toolbox along with a brand new 5000k winch and some other miscellaneous stuff ... looking optimistically at the situation I suppose I got off lightly.  3 duc are sitting in that the garage ... BUT now the thief has had a good look too ... I'm now going crazy... I'm now willing to sell 2 so the thieving f***ers don't get them.  I've replaced some of the easy to buy tools but its the harder to find oversized sockets that hurt the most; oh and the home made steering head 4 pin socket (wasn't that good) ... the Grinch lives.  Sorry just had to vent.

They did it during the day?  No one saw anything?  That is a lot of stuff to take.

it might not be totally clear in the above description; but it was sometime between 7pm and 7am; we have a garage in a back lane and they got in the side garage door; is hard to see but from 2 neighbours and only if the were really looking at the side door ...yep 50 b;s at least of tools; unfortunaatly I left an empty napsac in the garage that they used to fill   :'(

Damn sorry about that.  At my old apartment complex the door on our garage faced no one.  I got so paranoid with the recent crime in the area I ended up blocking the door with 2x4's and only using the remote to get in.  Sure enough 2 weeks later someone busted the door jam with a crow bar. Totally mangled the steel door.  My 2x4's, brackets and lag screws going into the studs held steady though.  They finally gave up.

Hopefully they will get caught somewhere else and you can get your tools recovered.

weird sounds like the person knew exaclty what to steal as far as hard to get tools, for some reason who would steel a steering head tool or oversized sockets as they probably don't have much use unless you are looking for specifically those tools.

That sucks...I had the same thing happen this summer, and it's maddening.  Bastards took all my tools, plust two Cannondales, but not my GT1000 (My MTS620 happened to be getting its valves checked, so at least they only knew about one bike).  They even took the original shocks off my GT.  Fortunately insurance covered everything, but still, it's hard not to get angry when jackasses do stuff like this.

sucks to hear about this and sorry it happened to you...MY best advice, if you are at all worried about the bikes is to attach and hasp OR 2 down to the floor from the garage door from the inside and padlock it down...

Out of a similar concern, we put disk locks on our bikes at all times regardless of where they are parked. Sorry to hear your news.

Yep, after my rented storage unit got broken into almost 2 years ago and they tried to steal my bikes my mind set changed radically. I won't bore everyone with the story but it's in a post in Stolen Motorcycles. What saved my bikes were all the 30mm thick On Guard locking cables. One through each wheel on every bike and then one tying them all together nose to tail... kind of a Motorcycle Centipede!! [laugh] [laugh] You can't take one because they are all locked together. [thumbsup] All my bikes in the home garage are locked the exact same way. I added some screaming Xena disc locks too just for fun.

Now, if my wife will only keep the garage door down when she leaves!! [bang] ;D

Really sorry for your loss. I make the beast with two backsing HATE thieves!! I finished walking my dog and I noticed 4 police squad cars parked at a house on the next street over. I asked one of the officers what happened. Home burglary, broad daylight, 10:30 in the morning. Bastards. It can happen to anyone, anywhere, any time. Just hope I'm home if it ever happens to me. [evil] [popcorn]

thanks for sharring; it's unfortunate that Im not alone; yes its a little odd that just tools were taken; like they new what they wanted; but they also seem tp go through eveything; and just took what they could carry ... left a chainsaw and miter saw .... the really expensive tools were locked away in a chest that they found but didnt attempt to break into ... might have been in a hurry .. don-know...

My house has been broken into 5 times in the last 9 months. I don't currently live in it cause I'm in the middle of remodeling the entire house. So far they've made off with all my appliances, my cast iron tub, my gutters, and my screen doors. All stuff that can be sold for scrap metal, the standard m.o. of the local pillheads. They also ganked one of my cars in broad daylight with my neighbors watching, who didn't even do so much as call the cops.

The cops actually caught the guy that broke into my neighbors home yesterday morning! The back alley neighbor and his wife saw the guy go into the backyard through an unlocked gate. They knew it wasn't the home owner so they called 911. When all the squad cars arrived the home had been burglarized but the crook was already gone. Come to find out the neighborhood has been patrolled by unmarked cop cars for a while and this crook has been spotted by them casing the area. They would see him and then call in other unmarked cars to tail him so he would not get suspicious that he was being followed. Pretty smart!

By the witness' description they knew it was their suspect. They spanned out and found him with the stolen goods still on him!! I was wondering why there have been so many marked squad cars in the neighborhood lately. They were just putting on a show to scare off the burglar. When it didn't work they still knew who to look for. Heads up call on the neighbor's part and damn good police work all around. These things rarely have happy endings but this one did! [thumbsup] [clap]

One of my friends from college kept having break-ins to his garage.  He rigged up a digital player of an angry Rottweiler barking and put a motion detector on the eaves well hidden.

Whenever anyone walked by, they just heard a really pissed off dog barking.  He had several sequences that played so it didn't sound the same each time.  Never had a break-in again.

Where on earth do you live?

In a small town in East TN, the meth/pillhead capitol of the universe. And like I said, I don't actually live in the house. It's been empty for 3-4 years. So it's an easy target. Never had any trouble till I got new next door neighbors. The shit started as soon as they moved in. They were evicted a few weeks ago, so we'll see what happens now. What makes the whole situation even better is that my backyard butts right up to the city sheriff's office. My car was literally 75ft from the sheriff's back door when it got swiped.

wow, just wow.  we have a hangar at the airport locally which is right next door to the police station.  I've gone in and out at all hours through the security gates (padlock) and not once have I been questioned.  you should see the FAA and Police signs.  maybe the proximity is the weakness they are exploiting.  If you need squatters let us Texans know, we come armed.  :o

As far as stealing particular tools- thieves are dumb. I know, obvious, but I had parts for a water suction pump that's only used in the Navy stolen out of my jeep, along with a pair of coveralls that were soaked in jet fuel.

I moved in 3 years ago, December 23.    On December 25, my garage was burglarized.   They got the air compressor my wife bought me for my birthday, and some other tools.  We live in a gated community, and a whole bunch of people were watching us move in, so I figure it was one of those bastards.   So two days later, I started searching for German Shepherd Rescue dogs.   First I got one, then I got another.   Great dogs.   And I told the neighborhood gangster kids that they were retired police dogs, had to be retired because they kept killing people.    They thought that was pretty cool.   And besides that, whenever someone gets near the house, they go apesh!t and try to break through the doors or the windows, I'm surprised they haven't broken a window yet, because they bounce off of them so hard.

I've probably got more money in the garage than in the house.    At least they can't run down the street with a 400lb Tig Welder, or a 15 X 48 lathe, or a milling machine.  And I still look into garages around the neighborhood, thinking my compressor is still around here.

And those jet fuel soaked overalls were probably eaten by those cranksters if they smelled some fuel on them.

Me too, I've got more shit in the garage than the house. Our TVs need to be carbon dated they are so old, who'd want them? What's a flat screen and HD?? I purposely leave my cell phone in the car, open to every thief because it's ancient and I could make the beast with two backsing care less if I loose it. I am the original 1%er that doesn't give a shit about cell phones.

I also could care less if they got into the house... they'd get depressed and leave. The garage is another thing. I leave the garage radio on all the time and the lights on every time we leave. There is also my old Suburban in the back driveway. So, there is music on the radio, cars in the drive and lights on and one hell of a barking dog inside... is that the house you really want to break into? Not to mention the crazy make the beast with two backser inside with the 12 gauge looking to shoot someone!!! [laugh] [laugh]

This is a bad time of year for thefts. Hope you all keep a big heads up and take preventative action. Leaving town? Tell your neighbors, stop the newspaper and mail, have a friend park their car in your driveway, leave indoors lamps on timers, install outdoor floodlights, etc... Make them choose another house because yours doesn't look easy! [thumbsup]

I am sorry to hear that.  I hope they catch the crooks.

I had my leather gears stolen back in '05 along with x-box and two laptop.  For some reason they left my 3rd gen iPod which was brand new then.

What kills me to this day is one of the leather jacket they stole was a special gift from my ex-girl (may she rest in peace).  That kills me more than all the other gears etc they stole.  I hope they get whet is coming to them.

With all gifts lying around, it's perfect time for crooks to do their evil deed.

I tell you what, It's a pregnant dog to try and clean the police fingerprint powder.  Impossible to clean.

ab - at least you got the cops to come out.  The lock my car was bashed in.  The radio was stolen out of my car along with a couple other things. Our local PD said someone will call me on Monday to take the report, sorry this happened to you.    Same thing when all the wheels were stolen off my wifes car.
Someone stole my registration sticker and I had an attempted break in on our garage.  I didn't bother calling it in, no use.

I have to point out that the police response here in Santa Maria, CA, is pretty bad.   It took them 4 hours to get here when I was burglarized.   Never heard a thing back from them either.   So as I mentioned, I still look into every open garage that I see.   I've called them when a bunch of idiot gang members decided they wanted to keep doing burnouts in their piece of crap cars in front of the pool here.   It took them over 45 minutes to come, and there were little kids hanging around when these guys were doing their stunts.   And they didn't do a thing, they talk to these punks like they are their buddies.   We've got a very bad gang problem here, along with a really bad illegal alien issue, and the attendant problems related to both,  no drivers license, no insurance, no registration, robberies and burglaries, and the police don't do anything about either.  So, I've come to the conclusion that you can't rely on the Santa Maria Police Department for anything.  It might be time for some high definition cameras, along with an alarm system.

Sounds like your thugs might like the idea of making a video with your security cameras. [bang] Especially if they know nothing will come from it. That is unless you are the one to intervene and not the cops. Sometimes that just leads to more problems... unfortunately. :P Sorry your neighborhood's in the toilet.
