Okay, so I saw that lawbreaker suggested a New Year's ride on The "Captain's" board and decided to start a thread here for those who may not frequent both...

I'm guessing that nobody will be in the mood on saturday the 1st, so I say let's do it on the 2nd!

I'd love to do the 33, but I know some of you folks might not want to ride that far, even if it is less crowded, less closed, and fewer [leo]'s than the ACH...  ;)

So post up, add suggestions for times, the route, etc...

Well, usually it ends up being me and Sac Duc, sometimes orangelion03 that make the run.  I'll pick up orangelion03 on the way to Ojai, and we'll meet Sac (who rides Route 150 all the way from Santa Barbara) at Eggs-n-Things in Ojai. 

I live in Moorpark, right by the Junction of the 23 and the 118.  We can meet at the Shell Station right by the freeway and then I'll lead us to Ojai... 

The last time I put together a big group ride up this way, we had a couple of peeps come up from Venice and one from Long Beach!!!   [bow_down]  We did the whole "Five Counties Loop" and everyone was home well before dinner. 

Of course, there was a [leo] chase (nobody on a Duc), the yummiest blackberry pie, and red capes and mohawks!   ;D

I'm planning on experiencing the blackberry pie again, but not the other two...  :P


Post up if you're planning on coming so I know how much bacon to cook...
It's a tradition... I bring bacon along for everybody to munch on. It's what I do.   :)

Regardless of where we end up, roads will still be thrashed from the rains (even if they stop tomorrow as they are predicting).  Might not be able to make the big loop as Pine Mountain has a lot of snow.  We can always hang out someplace and show off our pressies.

My reflashed ECU is supposedly on the way home, so if I get it in and set up before, I should be available. If so, I will keep company at the back of the pack!

Naah....since I put the new bars on the bike I don't enjoy it as much....the sweep of the bars is too much for me, but she likes it.  The bars were $13, so who am I to argue?   ;D

Road condition update:  Drove to Ojai on the 150 from Santa Paula...rode was clean, but damp in the hollow and the shaded areas on the drop into Ojai Valley.  Took the 33 up to just past the pair of tunnels...clean, except for the road just past the tunnels:  wet and dirty, but always like that.

I'll be coming from LA. Los feliz Hollywood area. Close to the 5 and 101. Anyone near me to ride up together?

Luckily, it was just in the garage. The kickstand magically folded up by itself and it tipped over. It fell onto Ericka's 696 where it was saved by her frameslider.  Not a scratch on either bike, but my left mirror/turn signal broke off.    :P

alright I'm a go.  Wife hurt her hand yesterday which necessitated an Urgent Care visit around 8pm.  She insists she's fine.

I just had my breakfast but curiously it was missing bacon, waffles only.

I'll leave OC around 8:30/8:45 and meet at Ryan's place.  I have my 2D navigation so hopefully I won't get lost on the way.

I'm wearing a cold gear UA, a 'regular' UA, my warm jacket, bohn adventure pants, kevlar jeans.  I'm hoping that's enough layering.

What a great day! 

The top and back side of the 33 provided some "entertaining" moments, but we made it through the snow, ice, gravel, and a few boulders the size of Mazdas in the road no problem!   ;D

Everyone was either early or on time... I guess nobody wanted to miss the bacon cupcakes or the bacon au naturale!  ;)

Second, thanks for everyone's flexibility with my pace.  I don't normally get rides like that and a couple of those more technical spots were a bit much for me.  It's a confidence issue mostly, if not entirely.  But I appreciate everyone hung out in the back and everyone else waiting for us to catch up.

Despite the cold I hope everyone had fun! I think it will prove to be much more fun once it warms up a bit! After all, we didn't get to head up the other road (what ever it's called...Ryan) today which is AAAhhh-mazing!

yeah, i know, but when you're the guy holding people up it doesn't always feel so awesome.

Don't get me wrong, i had a great time.  Was good to meet some new peoples, hit some roads I rarely ride.  I want to get back on 150 when it warms up and get some pictures, especially of that St Thomas Acquainas college or whatever it was.

There's a BBQ joint on 79 I want to try, maybe we can get a good route assembled for feb or march?  Maybe if we plan something quarterly and spread it around LA/OC/SD, we can get SoCal DMF happening.  What do you think?

First of all, you didn't hold anybody up...  Us guys on our hunched over type bikes needed to stop so we wouldn't be permanently stuck in that position!  [laugh]

No, seriously.  If we wanted to do a crazy-everybody-must-ride-as-fast-as-you-can ride, I would have organized a track day...  You didn't hold anybody up. 

These kinds of rides are so much more than just apex/straight/apex/straight/apex/straight.

I organized the ride to accomplish 3 main objectives:

1) Get some old friends and some new friends together and have a good time riding.  [moto]
2) Make sure everyone gets out and back safely.  We had 8 go out and 8 come home.  [thumbsup]
3) Use said ride as an excuse to eat bacon, help others enjoy said bacon, and eat more bacon.  [bacon]
