Dave, where are you?

We need info.

I have to go to the airport soon and there might be a picture of something I need to see before I go.  A picture of a cat doing something funny or of some freak natural phenomenon that I didn't know existed.  I don't even know.

Please hurry.

China's Secret Stealth Fighter:

Similar lambda wing design to the F22 but larger which could mean that it's less agile but could carry more fuel and ammunition.

A friend of a friend used to do similar things as an art grad student. He would make costumes that replicated famous minimalist art in such a way that he would blend into the art when he stood in front of said art in major museums. He would just stand there. In front of the art. Just standing. And eventually he would be kicked out. Presumably so others could stand in front of the art.

Taking the first step towards looking at art:

There are three things you should do when looking at art. 1) Never ask, "what is it?" It does not matter what it is. Art does not have to be representational. It is "for its own sake."  2) Do not stop your critical thinking about it when you answer the question "Do I like it?" whether you like it or not does not matter. Sure it may matter to you, but it does nothing to help determine the quality of the art. 3) Realize that art is not craft. Having technical expertise in a certain area has nothing to do with being a great artist. You don't have to know how to weld to make metal sculpture. There are fabrication shops all over LA that will do that for you. Certainly those great Renaissance masters were spectacularly talented painters. But those master pieces you see in museums bearing the name of the master, many of them were painted by students. This does not lessen the art nor does it make it such that Rembrandt shouldn't have his name on it. Most museum quality artists incredibly intelligent and educated individuals who are extremely proficient in there craft as well as there art. Guys like Basquiat who relied on talent and vision and work alone are the exception. But again, that doesn't really matter.

Once you master these to basic steps when viewing art you can take the first step towards being a complete douchebag art snob. Start learning the historical significance of the piece of art. To maintain pure douchebag art snob status make sure the "historical significance" is limited exclusively to Art History, as though art is produced in a vacuum and "the art world" (use that phrase often) is a rare place only for elites. when talking about the historical significance of a piece of art make sure to name drop as many artists as possible. Use their names as descriptors as though you are tasting wine. And of course never drink the wine at show openings. Clearly that would be beneath you.

If you don't want to take the snob route then still do the first three steps, but then just simply read up on what catches your fancy. And, like every other endeavor in life, get a little outside your comfort zone. If a painting irks you a little, read about it. Perhaps there is a reason it irks you. Perhaps it is supposed to irk you. Perhaps the artist was intentionally vague about what he/she as trying to invoke.Perhaps the artist found a way to intentionally strip away all emotional content from the canvas. And yet there you are feeling something about it. Perhaps quite a strong feeling. Certainly art can invoke more emotions than just the sublime. Or none at all. You may even become a little fascinated by those guys who seemingly just painted a canvas a single color and left it at that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazimir_Malevich (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazimir_Malevich)

Critics derided Malevich for reaching art by negating everything good and pure: love of life and love of nature. The Westernizer artist and art historian Alexandre Benois was one such critic. Malevich responded that art can advance and develop for art's sake alone, regardless of its pleasure saying that "art does not need us, and it never did".

Did I ever mention that I had the opportunity to go to a little art college in Savannah Georgia?

I decided to learn how to blow shit up instead

SCAD? And you didn't go? Why not?

And art and blowing shit up do not have to be mutually exclusive. One could reasonably argue that there needs to be more shit blown up, you know, for art's sake.

X-47B - Unmanned Stealth Bomber:

Last Friday (Feb 4), the Northrop Grumman-built U.S. Navy X-47B Unmanned Combat Air System Demonstration (UCAS-D) aircraft successfully completed its historic first flight at Edwards Air Force Base in California. The era of the unmanned  combat plane is fast approaching.

Taking off under hazy skies, the X-47B climbed to an altitude of 5,000 feet, flew several racetrack-type patterns, and landed safely at 2:38 p.m. PST. The flight provided test data to verify and validate system software for guidance and navigation, and the aerodynamic control of the tailless design.

The Navy awarded the UCAS-D prime contract to Northrop Grumman in August 2007. The six-year contract calls for the development of two X-47B fighter-sized aircraft. The program will demonstrate the first-ever carrier launches and recoveries by an autonomous, unmanned aircraft with a low-observable-relevant platform. Autonomous aerial refueling will also be performed after carrier integration and at-sea trials.

I love this paragraph from the article.

"The statue has set off debates about the artistic value of a RoboCop statue. Some complain that the movie, about a dystopian, crime-ridden Detroit, would hurt the city's image."

Crime-ridden dystopian Detroit? That's not the bucket of sunshine I know.

To borrow from Geekologie:

"From a general standpoint, it's badass, but from a zombie-apocalypse standpoint it's really not that practical because:

1. it's like six-feet long, making it fairly awkward to tote around during an emergency situation (still not sure what I'm gonna do about my penis)
2. load-time takes several seconds, making it a poor choice for fighting off groups and probably only useful for taking out those antisocial "loner" zombies and/or maiming people running faster than you
3. ammo is super-expensive unless
4. you retrieve every machete after a kill in which case that's a whole lot of pulling machetes out of corpses. "

- that about susm it up for me :)

The machete itself is useful enough.. 2 should deff be on your list of weapons when the zombiepacolips hits, or a couple swords...

machetes can be used with one hand very easily.

most swords are 2 handed weapons. machete's are shorter and more resilient.

although i would carry a sword or 3 with me, the machete will be my go to in the coming zombie apocolipse

that slingshot would be awful not only because it's big and clunky, but also because we all know that to truly stop a zombie you have to destroy the brain. headshots would be a feat. you would be better off with a rifle if you must have a ranged weapon.
i will still hide and use my fitness level to escape. in a last ditch hail mary it's a grenade into the crowd and blades swinging.

no, i haven't thought too much about this.

Designed by Fang-Chung Tsai, the Collector USB Flash Drive would have its own base amount of memory. Add up to three microSD cards and you have got yourself a decent amount of storage space for only the cost of the original flash drive.

Actually it just looks like they are allowed to strap it on and pretend to use it.

TSA will love this kind of thing.  Gives them an excuse to sexually assault a woman in the event that she is concealing a weapon.  In that area.

It's a Cagiva. In 1983 Cagiva also sourced Ducati four stroke v-twin engines from 350 cc to 1000 cc and entered the big displacement market. Cagiva bought Ducati in 1985, but kept the Ducati name that was better recognized outside Italy.

The world's failure to end as predicted last weekend may have left many survival shelters overstocked, but if there's still a little space on the bunker shelf you might want to consider expanding your rations smorgasbord with the Tactical Sammich. Available in Pepperoni or BBQ Beef, the Tactical Sammiches have a claimed shelf life of over two years if maintained at 80 degrees Fahrenheit (26.7 degrees Celsius) or less.
