Amazingly the R1 rider survived. Where did this happen? Arizona of course. It's a good thing that the Arizona helmet law is in place and being observed....probably what saved this guys life.

At that speed it was most likely a 620. 

Damn. The only recognizable parts are a chain, part of a muffler and a rear wheel. Didn't know 620s had that much bodywork. [laugh]

yeah i have to agree, the person may have "survived" but i'm curious to know if the person is still walking and has all their limbs and such. damn that is one crazy horrific crash.

after reading that link , i don't think that guy will be released out of the hospital except out the back of a hearse, like they say "extremely cricitcal condition"

damn even moto gp bikes that crash going at the same speed don't desintegrate as bad as that bike did, guess the bike hitting a pole at 157mph will do that. i can only find a wheel, a chain and 1 brake rotor in those pictures as anything belonging to a bike. damn.

i think the "immeasurable stupidity" is the overwhelming factor above all else in that equation.

remember showya was probably going just as fast if not faster when he crashed, that doesn't make it ok or good, just saying any motorcycle crash is a massive craps shoot no matter what, and probably this guy won't survive past the next week.

correctomundo...my EMT friend said drunks don't have the reaction time to "tense up" when approaching impact like a sober person does and it most cases it helps injuries.

got a buddy that accidentally pushed his r6s to about 120. another guy i know pushed his r6 to 175 on his "I wonder what it can do" ride after breakin. R1's may have still been without a speed-limiter in the '05ish's... and theres a group of guys that race a couple times a summer from the detroit river to flint. nutters blew my doors off and i was merrily cruising @ about 95 northbound I-75. fairly certain that whole group of bikes was going atleast a buck fifty in traffic.

In the Summer when we sleep with the windows open, packs of inline 4's can be heard, working the curves on 495 at high speeds.......sometimes as late as 4-5am.

The Japanese sport bikes are not any faster than the Italian Ducati sportbikes, or the British Triumphs or the German BMW. I have ridden all four. In the big picture it is only the rider that is retarded fast.  [laugh]

and after DRKWNGs reply to my post i looked it up. it is possible for a 150lb guy to hit 175 on the speedo of an r6. very possible. it's just that the speedo is so inaccurate at that speed that it was closer to 160mph actual :p

He may have been up to 157 mph, but I kinda doubt he actually hit something and lived when he was going that fast...perhaps he fell off and slid for a few hundred feet while only the bike hit the concrete pole-base....

my '99 r1 would do 199 indicated (about 175~179mph actual) before bouncing off the rev limiter.

these things were more limited by stock gearing than anything else.
