Title: Mivv pipes - can you help me choose Post by: Jabberwocky on January 01, 2011, 01:50:06 PM I have been pursuaded by my mate (and the many posts on here) to get some Mivv pipes for my M695. He sent me the website where I can buy them but there are 7 different types (see below.) Does anyone have advice on which gto go for? Or do I go by personal choice and price? I am tempted by the MiVV Oval Titanium High DUCATI MONSTER 695 06-
which are £500. Being new to all this I want to avoid stupid mistakes. Mivv have a good selection. Carbon has a little more bass than steel/titanium - all are loud though. IMO, round looks better than oval. Your ECU can handle slip ons without modification - have the exhaust mounted by a shop and they can adjust a little if needed. If you can afford it, just to be sure everything is working well. My suggestions: http://www.pjsparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=17&products_id=244 (http://www.pjsparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=17&products_id=244) http://www.pjsparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=17&products_id=252 (http://www.pjsparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=17&products_id=252) If you need or want things to be a little more quiet, you should look for removable baffles/Db-killers (basically a removable plug at the outlet). I think most Mivv have those. Besides the look, the difference between low- and highmounts is clearance/lean angle related. Title: Re: Mivv pipes - can you help me choose Post by: muskrat on January 01, 2011, 03:14:41 PM Mivv's are the loudest IMO next to Leo Vance. I personally like the low slung exhaust on dual sided swing arm bikes. My opinion is that Titanium (pricey) or stainless cans are deeper sounding, at least the ones I've heard. Personally choice and budget takes the cake IMO. Check Youtube, tons of videos with sound.
I think these look great http://www.pjsparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=267 (http://www.pjsparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=267) also like these in stainless for about $200 less http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/6461/Exhaust/6461.html (http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/6461/Exhaust/6461.html) Title: Re: Mivv pipes - can you help me choose Post by: PJFZ1 on January 02, 2011, 06:58:32 AM With the DB Killers left in, the MIVV's aren't the loudest.. They are actually pretty quiet..

You can actually trim the DB killers to "tune" the DB level. Title: Re: Mivv pipes - can you help me choose Post by: muskrat on January 02, 2011, 02:16:58 PM ;)

I'm back and forth on highs or lows. Right now I've got lows and they hide my ugly swing arms but the high mounts look real nice and seem to be low enough to put on mini saddle bags.
round carbons for sure Title: Re: Mivv pipes - can you help me choose Post by: muskrat on January 02, 2011, 04:53:19 PM and yet another http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/RSS-D4/Exhaust/RSS-D4.html (http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/RSS-D4/Exhaust/RSS-D4.html) ;D

eeeeeew Title: Re: Mivv pipes - can you help me choose Post by: Jabberwocky on January 03, 2011, 03:11:20 AM Getting closer to decision thanks to advice. Definitely decided on carbon rounds. Now thinking about lows or highs. I do like the look of the high ones but don't know if that's just because it is different to what I have now?

Flip a coin once. If the result makes you want best of three - choose the other. If the result makes you want best of three - choose the other. Ooo. I'll have to remember that one. For the high or low mount, keep in mind that higher brings the sound closer to you (and your passenger if you ever carry one). With the baffles in, probably not a big deal, but if you want to open them up, that gorgeous roar will be Right There. If you usually ride with ear plugs, then that's probably not as big a concern. At the end of the clip, those really look like the GP-style pipes to me (cylindrical/round). The ovals are usually a few inches longer. (round-oval :D) The sound will be the same, give or take a decibel. ;) Title: Re: Mivv pipes - can you help me choose Post by: mendoje on January 04, 2011, 10:27:03 PM Recommend Titanium, regardless of brand. Barring any scuffs and scratches, the finish will never degrade or oxidize, unlike aluminum or carbon fiber, and Ti is lighter than Inox (stainless steel).

Much deeper bass, and Ti would not flow with my bike. ;) (http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa91/chiflado/feral004-1.jpg) Title: Re: Mivv pipes - can you help me choose Post by: mattyvas on January 05, 2011, 02:09:43 AM I love seeing clips of the old 620 at full song, shame i never got a decent clip of it on the track. Then it had some sound. [evil]
And I've said it before and I'll say it again. I truly LOVE your bike ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Title: Re: Mivv pipes - can you help me choose Post by: PJFZ1 on January 05, 2011, 06:12:13 AM CF will holds it's own, properly cared for. Much deeper bass, and Ti would not flow with my bike. ;) That is a gorgeous bike indeed. You must have an older MIVV. The new carbon fiber pipes are coated with a satin resin that isn't as shiny. We clean ours with WD-40, and after four years, they still look great. Also, you were able to remove the badge with the logo. MIVV now rivets them on, but they redesigned them a couple of years ago so they're not so big and obnoxious. |
