Title: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: miahendersons on January 06, 2011, 09:40:53 PM So, I have waited and waited and finally bit the bullet! Got the right deal and bought a new Red 2011 Monster 796 with ABS today.
I love the bike and have zero buyers remorse and can't wait to enjoy some of this AZ riding weather. Anyways, I have enjoyed this website and can now post. Just felt like I had to tell someone that would understand how I feel with that 1st bike feeling. (well 2nd bike, but the first was a dirtbike a while back.) Anyways, Glad to be part of the group! I found a M1100 on the floor with a few carbon bits and the Termi kit already installed. Then before I left the dealership, I went to parts and ordered the open clutch cover, mudflap removal kit and a few other small items. It never ends. miahendersons: MUCH CONGRATULATIONS! I've got an older 900 with similar power specs and you have no idea how much fun that middle Monster is gonna be!
And yea, just like everyone else, PICS! Stock or not, its fun to look at! JM Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: miahendersons on January 08, 2011, 09:12:26 AM Hey Everyone,
Thanks for all of the replies. I will post pics this weekend as this week has been super busy and I have only been able to ride it twice. Man, It is an awesome bike. Now I know what everyone is talking about from all of the reading I have done on this website forum. She brings a smile to my face everytime I walk into the garage. What are some people paying for insurance on these things? Mine was $630 annually but I put it under my umbrella insurance which probably requires a little higher rate for that coverage. Just curious. Pics to come...... Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: krolik on January 08, 2011, 09:30:07 AM Congrats. Now, bring on the pics........even if it IS stock, it's still "perty". ;) Don't do it! [evil] They'll just rag on you about fork reflectors and such. ;D Congrats, BTW. Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: fastwin on January 09, 2011, 01:35:48 PM Good for you. Consider it a late Christmas present that you had to buy yourself since no one else got you one! [moto]
First street bike? Not to be a buzz kill but be careful out there and don't push it. Not too many dumbass car drivers out to kill you while riding dirt bikes. But there is no end to them on the street. I'm sure you know that, the old fart/Dad part of me had to say it. ;D Have fun, enjoy and ride heads up. Let us know when the mod bug hits... 'cause it will. [popcorn] Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: Tangerine Dream on January 09, 2011, 03:38:47 PM Congrats! You're going to have a ton of fun on her [moto]
To answer your question, I pay less than $300 a year for full coverage on my S2R1k. Probably less than most, but I have a decent record and multiple lines with State Farm. P.S. Have you named her yet? P.S.S. The weekend is almost over. Where's the pics ;) Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: miahendersons on January 09, 2011, 07:51:13 PM Ok, here is the pic of her. I was out enjoying her which is the reason for the delay. What a fun bike. Gonna do the Fender Eliminator Kit as my first "To Do" task. Would love the slip on exhaust but not ready to drop the $ since I just bought the bike. Someday.

Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: krolik on January 09, 2011, 10:12:34 PM ahhh my eyes.. reflectors front and back ;) I warned you. [roll] Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: Duc796canada on January 10, 2011, 12:37:15 AM Nice, looks beautiful, just like mine!! Riding impressions? As far as tail kits, i haven't been too impressed with most I have seen. They make the exhausts stick way back...not my thing. I'm actually thinking of making my own from sheet metal and in all honesty, the stock one doesn't look bad IMO. Watch out for those shine tires, take her easy around corners until the shine is gone!
Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: jvax on January 10, 2011, 03:07:50 AM Congrats and welcome to the group!! You will love every moment with her :)
Go easy on her until you two get to know each other. And like other said, ride easy around the corners until you break those tires in. Question: What made you go for a M796? Did you test ride any others? I'm interested to hear your experience as I'm sure all M796 owners have different reasons behind our choice of bike ;) Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: Bishamon on January 10, 2011, 06:00:15 AM Ok, here is the pic of her. I was out enjoying her which is the reason for the delay. What a fun bike. Gonna do the Fender Eliminator Kit as my first "To Do" task. Would love the slip on exhaust but not ready to drop the $ since I just bought the bike. Someday. Nice! I'm planning on removing the fender as my first task. I don't actually mind the exhaust; The new heat shields look much better than the 'old' style. Perhaps a little more sound would be nice, but I wouldn't want it to be as loud as my Sport 1000 with baffle-less Termis. Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: triangleforge on January 10, 2011, 08:04:31 AM Well, where you at in AZ? There's no snow in the photo, so closer to you that to me! Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: miahendersons on January 11, 2011, 04:44:51 PM Hey All,
I will try to answer some of the questions. -I am in Scottsdale and that is why there is no snow. Thanks god because I can ride her now. -Thanks for the heads up on the tire shine as the dealer said the same thing. I have been taking it easy. -The reason I chose the M796 ABS. Well, I have ridden every type of bike out there. Harley, Dirtbike, sport bike...... and got the chance to test ride a M696 about a year ago. I fell in love with the feel of the bike and also the sitting position. Lets be honest, they are badass looking as well. The bike was lightweight and came with high end parts since it is a Ducati. I was a little afraid of getting the 696 and then down the road maybe wanting a little more power. I didn't need the 1100 as that is just too much bike for what I was wanting to do. So, the 796 came out with some slight improvements and voila. It was the right bike for me. The one at the dealership was an ABS bike and the more I thought about it, the more it made sense for safety, resale value, and insurance cost. I don't regret it for a second. It cost a little more but I feel like I got the bike for a good price and haven't looked back since. -The fender eliminator kit is still in the works but I can't seem to figure out which one to do between the Competition Werks or the other one(can't remember name). Anywho, love the website here. Everyone seems so passionate about their bikes and also very helpful! Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: Duc796canada on January 12, 2011, 08:08:00 PM Scottsdale, hmmmm Tilted Kilt and bad to the bone, ribs at bad to the bone. I was out visiting with Dillion Aero a couple years ago!
Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: Raux on January 12, 2011, 08:55:50 PM for tail kits, there are a few options, but my only recommendation is don't do the CW one.
Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: sbrguy on January 12, 2011, 09:31:31 PM keep the reflectors on contrary to what everyone says.
i almost got a 1100 myself but instead went in a different direction, though i have to say that the 796/1100 are both great riding bikes when i test rode them. Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: Bishamon on January 13, 2011, 05:12:53 AM for tail kits, there are a few options, but my only recommendation is don't do the CW one. Really? After my research it seemed the CW was the best option available for the 796. ??? Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: jgrm1 on January 13, 2011, 06:01:09 AM So, I have waited and waited and finally bit the bullet! I thought you were going to tell us about your new Royal Enfield. Seriously, congrats on the new Duc. The 796 impresses me as a modern Monster 800 - the bike that led me to buy my S2R1000. -Jeff Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: eyduc on January 13, 2011, 06:32:31 AM Congrats! I was also considering that bike (SSS, 10 spoke wheels, undertail exhaust, modular bodywork, radial brakes)! There was a short time opportunity to buy that bike sans ABS for $1000 less and some winter deals. But alas, my current 06 S2R1K came up for half the money and it was very similar (exc no dry clutch). In shopping for one, I wanted a SSS, dry clutch, 1000cc, air-cooled, 5 spoked wheels or newer, and lots of mod options. I only rode mine home and very shortly, it was disassembled in my house! Have fun! Nice Duc! Don't forget to name her. My bike is Lucille (as in Ball, with red hair). It's the first bike I named and I've had plenty of bikes. This one just exudes emotion enough to deserve a name.

At there page, scroll down and you will see their most recent post. Looks like they are half way done and it looks like a complete tail vs just a short or no rear fender. Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. I have not really liked the tail kits out as of right now for the newer Monsters! I can't wait to see this one. [thumbsup] Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: miahendersons on January 16, 2011, 09:21:56 PM Great. I just got the Competition Werks one and started replacing it. I only ended up having an hour to work on it and that most definitely was not enough time. The directions suck. That carbon one looks sweet but I wonder how long till it is avail. and also how much.
Anyone else have have a hard time with the CW one? Title: Re: Bit the Bullet. Finally Bought one! Post by: iRam on January 17, 2011, 11:03:38 AM I got the evotech. It was relatively easy to install. No drilling.
