Anyone have any insight as to whether this is a worthwhile mod?  i'll be going to the track probably a half dozen times this year with some spirited riding and commuting 3-5 days a week on my '07 s2r800.

My suspension was noticibly softer last season so I know I need a suspension upgrade for the more aggressive riding that i'm getting into.  Are the stock internals on an adjustable '07 s2r1000 okay?  I know the swap is relatively easy to do as far as fit is concerned.  Would I do better to look at other forks?  Should I replace my rear spring also?

I performed the swap a few months ago myself.  I had changed springs and oil viscosity in my original forks and felt a considerable improvement in handling (along with the rear spring, see below).  The "new" S2R1K forks also got stiffer springs and lighter oil, but I have not noticed an improvement...still good mind you, but not enough to notice yet.  That said, I have not taken the time to tune it properly or mess about with the adjustments.  Along with the forks, I also installed S2R1K brakes (calipers and rotors) and MC, and there is a marked improvement in brake feel and power.

Depending on your weight, the rear spring change is a no-brainer.  I weigh 220 nekkid, and a stiffer spring cured several problems I had with the bike.  At the time I bought the 1K forks, I also bought a 3-way adjustable SHowa for the rear but have not installed it yet.

If you get the new forks adjusted professionally and get linear springs, they will be much better. Not fantastic, but much better. S2R 800 forks have little/none rebound damping, which combined with soft springs make them very jumpy.

In my experience, the shock isn't as bad as the fork, but a linear spring for your weight will improve the rear a lot too.

If you're into track days and work on your track/street skills - a very big thumbs up for suspension mods!!!!

Definitely have the bike sprung for your weight.

The S2R1000 forks are Showa and better valves are available if you find you need/want them.

is $300 a fair price for forks only ('07 with stock internals)?

thats defintely fair if its in great condition.

I went up to the S4R forks/caliper and wheels found it a great improvement. Now I'm not using the bike on the track but just around town and on the weekend trips it is a huge impovement and the brake upgrade is worth it as well.

That's what I paid for mine.  New fork springs will run you about $100 for the pair, and you will probably need spacers.
