Title: Paint.
Post by: Jett on January 07, 2011, 01:37:33 PM
Does anybody know where I can get a good/great match for the "monster dark" paint. I am planning on getting some damage to my tank fixed and that is my only dilemma right now.

The paint code should be in the owner's manual.

The Official Ducati paint codes are useless here in the US.

My paint guy has at least 5 different cans of 'dark' that he's gotten to match various darks he's painted.

Owner's manual and parts catalogue can be downloaded at ducati.com.

You gotta love it...

no two alike.  ;)

I almost committed suicide trying to match a silver dark.

so would downloading the manual and getting the code to give to a professional be my best bet? i can get a can of the actual paint from my local ducati shop. im just not sure if that is the best bet for the best match. price is no issue.

Ducati doesn't sell paint.

If you download the manual you'll get the code. If you can find a PPG paint store that sells the 'Global' line they can mix the paint.

That doesn't mean it will match your bike either in color or gloss.

Your best bet is to take it to a paint shop and have them handle it.

Dual post I guess?  Another good source for rattle cans are the automotive paint supply shop.  You can give them anything to match to and they put the actual automotive whatever brand you want in a spray can.  Cost a bit more but it is premium auto paint.  Or at least you can at my local shop.

The solution is to get DP to paint the parts red.

I checked and they left it out of the 01 manuals.

The code for all the other Monster darks is PPG 291.501

Good luck finding someone to mix it.

Thanks. I know I will need the luck from what I've heard.
