S4 mod ever ...the bike has at least a 20% HP boost , goes faster ,smoother and handles better even the brakes seem better as do the tyres ......so what is this magic modification that beats my Termis ,airbox moda DP ECU,PC3 maps , Ohlins and all the other host of improvments I have made over the last 4 years .....I am no kidding the bike now works so much better it actually makes sense ..I love it again Oh yeah the mod is a $1 pair of ear protectors i did 80 miles of my favourite ride today in 15 minutes less than usual and when i stopped the chicken strip on the rear tyre was gone !!!!! __________________ MONSTERMAN Title: Re: $1 The cheapest S4 mod ever, bike is 20% faster Post by: orangelion03 on January 08, 2011, 10:11:47 AM Such a deal!!!
I started wearing earplugs in the late 70s on my bikes, and later whenever I drove my Miata on the freeway, or long trips with the top down. It truly is amazing how fatiguing (and distracting) wind noise is. Title: Re: $1 The cheapest S4 mod ever, bike is 20% faster Post by: booger on January 08, 2011, 10:33:07 AM Hehe, I noticed that too. The earplugs filter out and smooth the inherent metallicky sounds from the engine that subliminally suggest it's not running as it should, even when it is. Also the wind noise, which can make you want to get off of your bike pretty quickly. All I hear is the throaty low-down noises that my mind sees as healthy sounds, and can more immediately connect with the torque pull of the motor. It's a mental effect, and it works.

My other 2 air cooled Ducatis the M750 and 750ss dont require the ear protection as they dont make such a mechanical racket.......seems the 4 valve motors even in perfect mechanical and tunes state are noisy beasts....almost as bad as my old 1971 Iron Head Sporster and a few Old british bikes I have had . Right. My S4 was no louder than my Hyper. Engine or exhaust noise is not the main reason to wear earplugs. You wear them to restrict wind noise and wind travel in and around your ear. You will end up being less fatigued at the end of a ride if you use them. And I concur with Rameses. My 4 valves have not been any louder then my 2 valve bikes. It's a mental effect, and it works. it's funny you mention that because that happened to me. I was taking bike for a spin around the culdesac after i changed something and thought "what's all that racket?" shrugged it off, figured i'd check it later, next time I rode was with earplugs and forgot all about it. I have a bunch of buddies, I4 type of guys, who thought earplugs were dumb until they tried a set. Now they won't ride without. I think most people think they block out noise completely and they won't hear sirens and things like that. Title: Re: $1 The cheapest S4 mod ever, bike is 20% faster Post by: jvax on January 10, 2011, 03:03:07 AM Started wearing earplugs from day 1 when I got my first (current) bike. I have ridden without them only a few times when I switched jackets and left them in the previous one's pockets. I think they make a huge difference with noise reduction and I enjoy the Ducati rumble even more with them on, cause somehow that rumble sound gets even lower and deeper.
