Title: Harbor Freight Soda Blaster.. Post by: TAftonomos on January 08, 2011, 10:40:04 AM Picked one up yesterday, with some of the coarse media. Works great! Def not as aggressive as a media/shell/shot blaster, but doesn't tear up rubber bushings and boots either (doing some suspension arms). [thumbsup]
Not sure if it would blast the paint off a duc case, but I'll try it this afternoon or tomorrow morning and let you know. Don't forget to use the 20% off coupon if you pick on up at the store. It was $150 - 20% + Tax, whatever that works out for you. Title: Re: Harbor Freight Soda Blaster.. Post by: DucHead on January 08, 2011, 11:12:06 AM I've had one for a couple months, works great!!
I got a Bandit oil pan off eBay, and it looked bad: (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d147/pompino/c6155200.jpg) After about 15 min. of blasting, followed by rinsing with water and drying with compressed air, it looked like this: (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d147/pompino/7a2e0d93.jpg) Title: Re: Harbor Freight Soda Blaster.. Post by: mitt on January 08, 2011, 11:22:49 AM where do you buy the soda?
Title: Re: Harbor Freight Soda Blaster.. Post by: Jarvicious on January 08, 2011, 11:36:41 AM You can use the compound they sell at HF or you can just use straight up baking soda. I was looking at those at the store today actually. If you don't want to drop $150 the one I was looking at was like $40 I think, albeit I'm sure it was tiny by comparison.
Orrrr, if you have an air compressor at home you can go the route this guy did. http://www.aircooledtech.com/tools-on-the-cheap/soda_blaster/ (http://www.aircooledtech.com/tools-on-the-cheap/soda_blaster/) Title: Re: Harbor Freight Soda Blaster.. Post by: DucHead on January 08, 2011, 11:44:41 AM where do you buy the soda? If you're blasting coins, then you can buy soda at the grocery store. For bigger (or lots of) jobs, HF sells 50 lb. containers. Title: Re: Harbor Freight Soda Blaster.. Post by: gregrnel on January 08, 2011, 07:54:54 PM HFT has never let me down.
Title: Re: Harbor Freight Soda Blaster.. Post by: ducatiz on January 09, 2011, 06:25:16 AM the smaller blaster is on sale for $99 and you can use the coupon with that.

I'll have to try that. Title: Re: Harbor Freight Soda Blaster.. Post by: 64duc on January 10, 2011, 11:49:15 AM make sure to have enough air compressor to do it It's going to take a lot more compressor than you might think to run continous. You only need 90 psi but you will need more cfm (cubic feet per minute) than any homeowner unit will put out. The amount of cfm and media you use is controlled strictly by the size of the orifice in the nozzle. Bear in mind it wears with use. Title: Re: Harbor Freight Soda Blaster.. Post by: Timmy Tucker on January 10, 2011, 12:24:33 PM Any chance soda blasting would strip the finish off a set of corroded and peeling coffin covers? I would just as soon refinish them as buy billet covers.

See the review below, but it looks like one guy ran his 5 CFM compressor without any problems. Even still, 8 CFM is not strictly industrial. I am continually being told my 4 CFM unit won't run anything - it runs whatever I plug into it, I just couldn't make a living on it. I am sure it would be fine for the projects listed here. http://www.harborfreight.com/15-lb-portable-soda-blaster-66742.html (http://www.harborfreight.com/15-lb-portable-soda-blaster-66742.html) Title: Re: Harbor Freight Soda Blaster.. I would just as soon refinish them as buy billet covers. soda will easily. I have the bigger one from eastwood with the soda conversion. If you use the SMALLEST nozzle you only need 7cfm, which is still more than most compressors. Luckly i have a 2-stage quincy that pushes something retarded like 20cfm at 90psi.
