Title: To Anodise or Paint in 2 - pack....? Post by: dan_t on January 17, 2011, 10:06:42 PM Hi all, I have a small dilema, I have an '08 S4RS which is a great looking bike. The frame is a beautiful red & the swing arm is a matt black. Where the problem is, is with the rear passenger hanging foot pegs & the bracket holding the exhaust. These are a bright aluminium colour & in my opionion, look bloody ugly.
Now I know that I could simply remove the rear pegs, but what if I need them? I was thinking instead of having them coloured to match the matt swing arm. Only question is how to do this? The finish would need to be tough to resist scratching & chipping from any feet that may find their way to the pegs. Does anyone have any experience with either anodising or painting in 2 - pack with these sort of parts? I'd love your thoughts & if you know anyone in the Sydney (Australia) area, let me know. Cheers Title: Re: To Anodise or Paint in 2 - pack....? Post by: S2daRk on January 17, 2011, 10:35:04 PM Another option would be to have them powdercoated.

(don't mind the scratches - that's from my 47 boots on rear sets) (http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l394/stopintime/too001.jpg) Title: Re: To Anodise or Paint in 2 - pack....? Post by: Roaduser on January 18, 2011, 05:16:44 AM a small piece of clear stone guard stuff could prevent the scratching/wear ive heard ppl talk about when painting or powdercoating oem rearsets. from what ive been told there is not a lot of difference in wear resistance between paint and powdercoat.. what do they use on brand name after market rearsets? ive havent seen a set of worn through rizomas yet.
on a side note, any reason for two different exhaust wraps? is that the titanium stuff on the top pipe? Title: Re: To Anodise or Paint in 2 - pack....? Same wrap, but the lower is covered with some screen door/window mesh material to resist wear. Just took a little longer to wear through. The titanium wrap might be better, but I doubt it will hold up much longer than my double layer solution. This year I'm covering the new wrap with a tougher mesh. Your powdercoated rear pegs are the look I'm going for, but with the hardest posible finish to avoid the scratching you have experienced - hence the questions about Anodising. I'm also a big foot, so would most likely have the same issue. Does anyone know what finish Ducati actually apply to the swing arm? Are there any accident repair guys out there who can tell me what finish they would apply to the swing arm if they had to repair one? I only ask as I'll bet the finish on the swing arm would be the best solution (from a wear & tear perspective) for the parts that I want to have coloured. Keep your suggestions coming !!! I doubt you will see the same scratches. Should be easy to check. If you want whatever Ducati makes you can buy their black passenger peg holders. I think 2007 and 2008 (red) S4R, had them in black. $ 250 for two of those and another 68 for the heel protectors. Title: Re: To Anodise or Paint in 2 - pack....? Yeah, I doubt that I'd have that much contact with my heels!! Although, I'm running the stock front foot pegs & still the rear of my boots touch the rear hangers. I didn't know that Ducati made them in Black, although, for that price ($318 + shipping), I think I'll persevere with getting them painted. Again, thanks for the input. |
