Title: Major differences from a 04 sr4 to a 07 S4rs Post by: Pachuco on January 18, 2011, 07:47:17 AM Looking at picking up one of these really soon, and was wondering why one would be better or what I would be giving up with either. I posted this on another ducati site 4 days ago, and got nothing. Hopefully this site is a little more informative.
Thanks Title: Re: Major differences from a 04 sr4 to a 07 S4rs Post by: ducpainter on January 18, 2011, 07:51:26 AM There are a ton of differences.
S4R uses a 996 desmoquattro motor. The RS uses the 998 testasretta motor. S4R has a steel gas tank...RS is plastic. S4R has a Showa front end and axial brakes...RS has Ohlins and radial brakes. Title: Re: Major differences from a 04 sr4 to a 07 S4rs Post by: ODrides on January 18, 2011, 08:42:02 AM The S4RS has all the bells and whistles. Are you new to Ducati? First Monster? What are you upgrading from?

Title: Re: Major differences from a 04 sr4 to a 07 S4rs Post by: Speeddog on January 18, 2011, 08:49:46 AM Additionally..
S4R has Showa rear shock, S4Rs has Ohlins. S4R has open-loop ECU, S4Rs has closed loop ECU with O2 sensor and idle air servo. S4R has the traditional 5-spoke wheels, S4Rs has lighter 10-spoke wheels. S4R is a bit easier to work on, but DesmoQuattro engine is more prone to flaking rockers. S4Rs has more power, but IMO the S4R has more than enough anyway. Title: Re: Major differences from a 04 sr4 to a 07 S4rs Post by: MadDuck on January 18, 2011, 08:53:23 AM Did the SR4 come with a single side swing arm or the double? I guess I'll do a search.
Regardless I'd still go with the 07. For all of the above good reasons. SSSRegardless I'd still go with the 07. For all of the above good reasons. I'd take the flaking rockers and downgraded suspension for the steel tank. I'm changing bikes. SOld my MV, the riding position was just tuff. Gorgeous bike, just couldn't do over 100 miles without my back killing me. I'm not new to Ducati super sport bikes, but new to monster. I own an 848, and actually looking for a 1098s as well, but I love the beefy cafe look of the monster, so I thought I would get one and see for myself. Their is just alot of choices, and I know the rs is the best one, but I just wanted to know if the differences were worth the difference in price.Title: Re: Major differences from a 04 sr4 to a 07 S4rs Post by: Speeddog on January 18, 2011, 12:04:35 PM Depends on the difference in price, mileage, etc.....what are you seeing?
Title: Re: Major differences from a 04 sr4 to a 07 S4rs Post by: muskrat on January 18, 2011, 02:03:10 PM SSS I'd take the flaking rockers and downgraded suspension for the steel tank. exactly the reason I bought an S4R instead of the S. Title: Re: Major differences from a 04 sr4 to a 07 S4rs Post by: DucRS on January 18, 2011, 02:51:41 PM You would give up all that goodness [drool] for the steel tank?
Solution; Buy an RS and simply replace tank. 16k miles later and No signs of warping anywhere........Am I destined to have issues at some point? Title: Re: Major differences from a 04 sr4 to a 07 S4rs Post by: JimmyTheDriver on January 18, 2011, 03:18:16 PM The subject is a comparison of the 04 S4R vs 07 S4Rs... but if you are considering non-s models, you might have a look at the 2007 S4R (non s). Same bike as the S4Rs minus upgraded suspension. Same power and would run a bit cheaper. I absolutely love mine.
Plus the non-s model comes in Titanium... mmmmmmmm. Solution; Buy an RS and simply replace tank. 16k miles later and No signs of warping anywhere........Am I destined to have issues at some point? Yeah. My small point, exactly. You can deal with the tank issue somewhat easily. The bennies of the other frame/engine upgrades outweighs the tank stuff in my book. Has anyone put a steel tank on an Rt/Rs? I did and love the power on my little bitty s4r. I'm not skilled enough yet to justify ohlins so I saved some serious coin for other upgradesSolution; Buy an RS and simply replace tank. 16k miles later and No signs of warping anywhere........Am I destined to have issues at some point? Title: Re: Major differences from a 04 sr4 to a 07 S4rs Post by: DoubleEagle on January 19, 2011, 10:17:09 PM WOW....my '07 S4Rs was a rocket...w, a 14T front Sprocket , Full Termis , open Air Box, DP ECU .
It was a blast to ride and very comfortable. It was my 1st Ducati , my 1st light weight bike so I got carried away w, it before I had the skills to ride it the way I was trying to ride it. Sadly I crashed it and totalled it . Never had any problems w, it for the 2 years I rode it . Often wish I still had it...but w, a 1098 R and some skills now, I can't really complain. Pearl white w, a red stripe, ...it was a beauty. I'm not skilled enough yet to justify ohlins so I saved some serious coin for other upgrades You would appreciate Ohlins (or any properly set up top shelf setup ) regardless of skill level. The ride is smoother. Turns are easier. Good suspension makes riding the bike much more enjoyable as your not waiting/wondering when it's going to wash out/bottom out etc. #1 best mod : light wheels #2 best mod : properly set up suspension Title: Re: Major differences from a 04 sr4 to a 07 S4rs Post by: muskrat on January 19, 2011, 10:46:44 PM I've ridden several with ohlins but despite mine having lesser grade suspension I have it dialed in for my weight. I never worry about it washing out and so far I haven't.
so, what's the verdict on the purchase?
