Title: considering clip-ons
Post by: seenickrun on January 20, 2011, 02:12:31 PM
I Just bought my 620 last year. The previous owner put a riser on the bars (see pic). I'm taller than he is, and the riding position is a little too upright for my taste. I'd like to install clip-ons. My only concern is that I'll be going from one extreme to the other (sitting upright to laying on the tank). Does anyone have any advice for someone considering this? Anything I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance!

Try doing a search and read the many threads on this topic.  I think most of your questions will be answered.

Good point, should've done that before posting. Excellent thread here: http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=43220.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=43220.0)

Maybe you can start with removing the risers and ride like that for a while.
It's not exactly like clip ons, but it will give you an idea of what's happening when you lower things.

Good luck - keep us posted [thumbsup]

.... and yes, the stock length bolts are available at your dealer for $2 each (and probably other places too)

I second the motion of going back to stock first.

clip-ons on the square reservoir monsters can be a bit of a project....

another option is a handlebar with a little less rise

2 dollars each? Damn... Italian bolts are expensive.

Wait till you have to buy exhaust gaskets.  Second time I had the midpipe off I just bought generic Harley gaskets and cut them up and shoved them in.  Worked like a charm.

You may also try a set of "clubman" style bars.  They'll give you a lower stance than even the stockers will, but you won't have to worry about clearance issues or screwing with taking off your upper triple, etc.  It should be pretty painless.
