After searching around this morning, it's more than obvious to me why this site is by far my favorite out of all the ducati sites.
Here you've got real-world tech experience, people will actually speak up to questions. We've got a track forum, "kitchen sink" forum, classifieds, blah blah....but it isn't one of these that make it awesome.....it's the people here. We've got a slew of guys who race, some of the best custom builders in the country, hacks and monkeys (like me!), and on and on and on.
Just looking at some other forums this morning made my eyes roll on more than one occasion....I mean we are all passionate about motorcycling, that is obvious....but it seems like the group here are RIDERS, not poser fanboys who sit around all day/night discussing where to put the new "Rossi button" on the new 1198 corsa R they bought last year but have yet to even ride, let alone knock the nubs off the tires.
Thanks for being the DMF. I'm glad to be a part of this place [thumbsup]
I feel the same way and have since this group was on the old board. It *really* is just the people here. Some of our most prolific posters and most knowledgable people don't even own a Monster and it doesn't matter. Some members here don't own an Italian motorcycle and it doesn't matter.
Totally agree TAftonomos... [thumbsup]

It depresses me (and my friends) about how much I talk about the shit that goes on on this site.
I miss Toasty :'(
i like how this forum doesn't have 40,000 different sub forums
I love that i live 30 min away from dp and eric and can stop by and visit if i have a question problem or just want to talk,of course most of my question are answered right here by great people just waiting to answer them!

i like the fact that every person from the DMF who i have met in person is exactly like i expected (based on interactions here.)
makes me want to get to know even more of you
(ok,...most of you.)
I like how the members of this forum have put together two different, annual, rider-based "ducati rallies". You know, for the meeting of other people and whatnot.
I like how we're all reasonably civil with each other ;D

Yep. Me also. As I've said before every time my wife hears me laughing my ass off when I'm on the computer she always asks with a sigh "You looking at that damn Ducati forum again?" [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

this site RAWKS!....and yes...it is because of all the people and their idiosyncrosies and persona's and all...
This thread should get an award for Captain Obvious. :)
I just the other night joined a CB750 forum in hopes of gaining some insight on getting a basket case 750 I've aquired back on the road. First several replies to a first post introducing myself were threats, hammering me about photos, reading the rules before doing anything, and if I was into choppong, bobbing, or cafe'ing I should look elsewhere. No wonder that site is about as entertaining as watching paint dry.
When I bought my Ducati I took a deep breath and prepared myself to deal with a bunch of spoiled brats, self rightious jerks, and rich mo-fos. What a huge relief it has been, and so enjoyable to find out that most Ducati riders are unique, dedicated and interesting people! And most with a sense of humor. 8)
Viva la Flounders!

Oh yeah. All the time. I'm really good at ignoring it and clicking on another DMF thread! [laugh]
I don't need Facebook. I have this place and that works for me. [thumbsup]
Well I can say this place has been an inspiration for me.
Without this place I would have NEVER had the courage to rebuild my bike myself.
The knowledge, contacts and people I call friends all through the internet.
And everyone I would love to be able to say, hey let's meet in June... well, Kopf needs meds before he comes ;)
I've met three of my best friends because of this board.
My Brother, Duck-Stew.. I can't even begin to describe his generosity, knowledge, and friendship towards me.
Polpetta... Welcomes me into her home, cooks dinner for me, and then sends her husband off with me on an epic moto-adventure. At that point, she'd known me less than 24 hours.
Sac Duc... He saved my life. Literally. The doctors at the hospital told me if Carl hadn't dragged my stubborn ass to a nearby fire station to get checked out by paramedics, I probably wouldn't be here to type this.
I thought my scratchy throat was just remnants of a hangover when we decided to ride 300+ miles up to DIMBY. Well, I had come down with tonsillitis, the bacteria had gotten into my blood and my body had gone septic. My tonsils were so swollen, they were pressing on my brain stem, causing uncontrollable shaking. My resting heart rate was 140+, and I had a fever of 103ish.
I probably don't need to mention that he slept in a chair at the hospital, then rode 300 miles home, packed up his 3 dogs and his wife in their SUV, and drove all the way back up the next day, slept in his truck with the dogs, and then rode my bike another 300+ miles home while Polpetta drove me home in the SUV. He, like his wife, had known me less than 24 hours at the onset of the trip.
Mr.Incredible and Mother... Drove 90 miles to pick my sick butt at the hospital, never having even met me before. Dave rode my bike back to his place, while Jacob drove me. Poor Dave is like 6+ inches taller than me, and with the clipons and rearsets on my little monster, his knees were up by his ears!
bobspapa... this guy is generous to a fault. I came home one day to find a package from him on my front porch. Inside was a framed picture of me in full reindeer getup on my new Duc, and a brand new set of smiley-face knee pucks! Every year he dresses up as Santa, and rides around handing out candy canes to local kids and families in his hometown. Not for money, recognition, or anything other than it makes a lot of kids happy. Is it any wonder that the members of the DMF (when it was DML) built him a motorcycle as a wedding gift?
Okay, so that was more than three... I was never too good at math... ;)
There are so many more people that I have become friends with because of this board. Whether I have met you or not, I count you as friends.
This place, my home away from home, is truly wonderful. Thank you one, and all!

wow.. good story Bacon J!
yeah, as I wrote in the opening post of my monsta build..
"I thought I'd share it with DMF because it (the people here) has been a huge influence on the what I've done"
I didn't share that build anywhere else, just wanted to put something back for what i've got out of here! [thumbsup]
....because, no matter what you want to do to your bike, someone can give you quality advice, talk you through it, and/or professionally do it for you at a very, very reasonable price. Not to mention finding parts (when you really need them) from people that want to help more than they want to make an extra $.
Thanks to one and all!
We really need a sub forum for these posts.
We can call it "Circle Jerks"
:-P~~
Ah, yes, it is a fine gathering place where we can enhance the enjoyment of our sad little lives, by improving the enjoyment of our Monsters, if applicable. I have learned alot here.
Now, if we are done with our group hug, excuse me, I need to go off and have myself a little cry!
On a side note, I'm kinda glad i don't have the money to do all the things to my bike I want - part of the fun is wishing and researching here about every little obsessive change.
I like the way Bacon Junkie looks in his reindeer outfit.
Would I still enjoy my Monster if I didnt know this forum existed? Probably.
But DMF makes the experience even more fun!
Mmmmmmmm...smell the bacon...
I like this site a lot. But since the demise of the boobies thread I can no longer say it is love.
sac
Id go so far as to say the boobies thread is the best thing I've ever created.
:'(
This is in deed a great gathering place full of unique individuals who honestly care about one another and help each other get thru all the ups and downs of life. I hope one day I can contribute as much as I have received. I would say this is as close to being a fraternity without being in college. [beer]
I thought (insert the diety of your choice) created boobies
A great site. I have received a LOT of great ideas from reading the threads and looking at the pics of everyone's bikes. I think about all of the time, energy, creativity that gets devoted to these great bikes and it is a wonderful thing. [bow_down] [bacon]

i had zero riding experience, and was looking for advice from other monster owners who were shrimps like me
11ty billion short jokes later...
i ended up meeting some of my best friends here :)

I'll take this in another direction,
I love that this site is so easy on the eyes, literally. After dicking around here for awhile and going to eBay to find the latest Corse widget I wince, SO BRIGHT! Part of this may be that my monitor is a 52 inch TV...

I love this place, just sad I haven't been around as much...... :'(
I love this place, because with all the wonderful advice, a complete mechanical moron (me) was able to buy a really badly crashed 2000 900ie monster and rebuild it in 9 months, without any major glitches. and ride it all last summer. [moto]
I am forever grateful and appreciative.
My own little small payback is try and give away some of the extra little parts (ie. footpegs) whenever anyone posts that they need something I have, but I'm not sure I can ever payback the good karma for all the great help I've been given.
So thank you again to everyone who ever took the time to give me a word or several of advice on the tech section, especially when some of the questions were often inane and simple.
this forum is one of the better forums i've ever been on. i like the sense of humor & the knowledge base here. without it, my dealer would have had to install my oil cooler & my fender eliminator. & one of the reasons why i have so few post is because you guys always beat me to what i was going to say.
