Title: winter blues
Post by: redxblack on January 26, 2011, 09:51:35 AM
How sad that I'm excited to go to the garage today and run the monster for 5 minutes. You warm weather people should take a moment to reflect on your good fortune to be where you are. Those of us in the frozen tundra are really feeling the weight of the winter weather right about now.

about 45 days until the spring thaw. ugh.

Snowmobiling keeps me sane.  [thumbsup]

Well, more or less.

Not rubbing it in but this Friday here in Dallas they are forecasting 70 degrees and sunny. Now that's the kind of Texas January weather I like!! [clap] [thumbsup] [moto]

That was just down right mean. We actually had our first day in about a week above 15 degrees.

We'll be thinkin' about you when you've had a month of 100 plus temps and it's only in the 70s and 80s up North.  (http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn198/DoubleEagle_photo/evil-1.gif)

Yeah but only for a month and we can ride all winter long  ;)

We haven't seen temps above freezing since before Christmas. My bike is scattered between the garage, the basement, and my truck. If it gets any worse, I'll have to write a country/western song.

Easy solution... ride faster [evil]

100 degrees is still 100 degrees at 100 miles an hour.  Hot air is hot. :)

But mass transfer accelerated by highly turbulent air can make it feel much better.

Not really, but at least you spend less time baking :)

If you live in snowy areas, you have to learn to embrace it.  Falling off mountains with sticks strapped to my feet  works for me.  Go watch some Warren Miller videos and get fired up about winter while its here!

yeah, that's about the only thing that keeps me sane. Been a skier since I was a kid, but decided to take up snowboarding at the grand old age of 43 so I can hang with my 9yr old kid.

However, I'll be really, really happy to put away the snowy hill riding projectiles and pull the monsters out of the garage anytime now.

I hadn't skiied since highschool and picked it up again at 45, same time I started motorcycling.  Made my first Out West skiing trip a couple of weeks ago to Whitefish, MT - best time of my life.  Just got in from 4 miles of cross country - beautiful sparkly morning.

I went Saturday and it was overcrowded and underwhelming, imo. My favorite vendors from prior years weren't there. I was looking for a couple pieces of gear and left empty handed. I did sit on a repsol honda and it felt really good, so that was a plus.

Over 400 miles so far on the new sled (weekend riding only). I'd have gone postal by now if I hadn't gotten back into snowmobiling this year.....

I wish I could be confident we'd thaw by March 12.

Did you actually ride on that road?

There are some fairly effective treatments available these day, you know...

I love riding in fresh snow.

...but we only get it for a few hours a year   >:(

a little under 300 for me so far (only 1 weekend under my belt as of now).  I am probably hitting Tug Hill, NY or PA Grand Canyon this weekend.

I've read some good stuff about Tug Hill. Sounds like a hoot!  [thumbsup]

One of my friends grew up on the edge of Tug Hill.  His dad rode almost 200 miles on Friday.  Great place to live if you ride a sled.

It's great up until saturday afternoons, then it turns into Bump Hill.  That's OK though, b/c it's only about 3.5 hours from home.
