Title: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: thought on January 29, 2011, 03:44:01 PM worst morning ever... my brand new 796 got dropped and it wasnt even by me...
so i go down into my apt's garage and notice that my bike isnt in the same spot that i put it in... getting a bit worried, i look it over and it seems that someone sat on it, didnt realize how heavy a bike is, and then dropped it onto the right side. only minor damage, a scuff or two here and there, but the rear brake pedal is now bent. luckily the first thing i did was put on a full set of sliders so that kept everything else off the ground. the only good thing about this is that there is a security camera right above where i park so there is a high chance that they are on tape. i have to wait for the management office to open up on monday before i can have them check the tapes. and... i must say... if i do find out who did it, i'll be making them pay for every single damn scuff. i'm tempted to put a sign on the bike saying that whoever dropped the bike should go report themselves or else when i find them i will press charges against them. sigh... Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: stopintime on January 29, 2011, 04:12:30 PM That's just [bang] [bang] [bang]

Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: TitanMonsterS4R on January 29, 2011, 07:47:33 PM Sorry to hear that man. I know the feeling. Make'em pay. They'll think twice about sittin on someones bike when they get hit with that bill. People don't realize how much it costs to repair/replace bike parts much less Duc parts.
Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: Bishamon on January 29, 2011, 09:07:48 PM ARGH! I agree; Make them PAY!
Some people just don't give a sh1t about other people's stuff. I suppose when they don't even care about their own stuff... Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: sisca77 on January 29, 2011, 10:01:12 PM That sucks big time!!!! Definately make whoever it was pay.
Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: matmcd78 on January 29, 2011, 10:30:43 PM It still amazes me that people will just randomly sit on somebody else's motorcycle without asking first. How would they feel about somebody randomly opening their car door and sitting down?
Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: iRam on January 29, 2011, 11:01:40 PM I can't stand people sitting on other peoples bikes without permission. Make em pay mate!
Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: Heath on January 29, 2011, 11:11:32 PM Good luck on seeing the tapes. My wifes wheels were stolen off her car that sat in view of a camera. They told us we could not see the tapes. They would only show police. Also that the police only had 7 days to come out before the camera got taped over. Such a load of bull.
So ya good luck to ya! Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: dark_duc on January 29, 2011, 11:14:54 PM That sucks! I hope they find them!

Post by: thought on January 30, 2011, 10:33:11 AM thanks for the replies guys... and i think it should be ok with the tapes... it's my own apt building and i think they will go through them for since it is a very very high chance that it is someone in the building that did it. but... your post did just wind up worrying some more >.< haha
Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: Slide Panda on January 30, 2011, 10:46:24 AM Yep, make 'em pay. Tell them they can just pay you and you'll forgive and forget... But also tell them that if they don't pay it'll go to the police and insurance and they will be paying anyway plus paying what ever fines the LEO level on them for vandalism etc

Do not give them a chance to make good on their own, get the police involved immediately and press charges. Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: Raux on January 30, 2011, 12:23:48 PM If they'll be paying anyway just prosecute the sumpregnant doges. Do not give them a chance to make good on their own, get the police involved immediately and press charges. the apt complex company's policy may have you getting the police involved anyway. if they won't assist without polic intervention on the video... you got no choice. But you still wouldn't have to press charges if the insurance companies get involved. they may have their own car insurance or renter's insurance that could end up paying for the damage. also, it totally could have been an accident at this point. maybe a baby stroller was heading into the road, a person jumped in the road to stop it, the person they knocked out of the way to get the stroller, was staring at your awesome bike, fell into the bike and knocked it over. Just saying... it could happen Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: vossy on January 30, 2011, 04:41:57 PM You have a good point there Raux.

Seems to me that these days most people look with their fingers.. [bang] it really pisses me off.. >:( [coffee] Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: thought on January 31, 2011, 06:46:58 AM well, i just spoke to the management office... seems that there wont be any issues with them checking out the tapes and i was assured that they wont be erased. that being said, the girl that would be the one doing the work isnt in today and i wont be able to speak to her till tomorrow morning.
and due to the placement of the bike... there is a very very very low chance that it was a mistakenly dropped. it's not in the direct path of anything and where it was standing when they put it back up was a bit forward of orig resting position. i figured that if it was an accident, it would have slammed harder on it's side with more damage, and about where it was sitting... not 3-4 feet ahead. also, one of the reasons that i havent put up the sign on the bike is if i never find the person. for me... letting them know that i was looking for them and then making that threat... and then them knowing they got away with it would be a lot worse. esp since they would then know they could just mess with my bike whenever they wanted to. chances are it was someone younger i'm guessing... most of the people in my building are a bit older, so i'm guessing it was probably one of their kids... which would explain why they werent able to balance the bike. and even if i posted that sign, i'm guessing most kids wouldnt fess up either way. sigh, i'll keep you guys updated on what happens, and here's hoping ;) Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: LoneStar on January 31, 2011, 06:55:08 AM good luck. i came out of a shop to find a guy sitting on my bike while his buddy was taking his picture.
i rolled up on them and realized they were young kids from another country (bulgaria). i explained to them that they're at risk of a beat-down around here for that kind of stuff. now run along before i change my mind... no harm, no foul in my case. Post by: Nomad on February 01, 2011, 10:18:28 PM This does little good for you now, but I'm a little paranoid about parking my bike at home because my driveway has a slight angle to it. I just leave my rearstand nearby and whenever I pull in for the night I put it on the stand, and throw the cover on. It takes an extra two minutes tops to put the stand and cover up, and not only protects from inquisitive folks, but if the wind gets crazy the bike wont get blown over.

Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: thought on February 02, 2011, 08:54:59 AM spoke to the lady looking at it... she says that the camera might not have seen the bike, but i'm still hoping that it did... she has to go through a good amount of tape though, and she's been out for a couple of days so she also has a lot of work to get through before she says she can review everything.
sigh... still hoping, but getting kinda worried now. i've ordered a nelson rigg bike cover, so that should help keep everyone off it. it's time's like this i really miss having a garage of my own and not just a apt parking lot :\ and thanks for the comments guys... i'm going to give her a day or two more before i go and ask again... my management dpt for my apt is a bit slow and i figure pissing them off isnt going to help me at all :\ Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: 696DCRider on February 02, 2011, 09:02:40 AM It's a lot cheaper to pay to have a couple parts fixed from a tip over than it is to buy a house instead of living in an apt. That's what I keep telling myself at least though. I feel your pain though.

I can see on the video starting on the 26th that the motorcycle is already in the wrong place (moved up from where it is usually parked).
I don’t know if coverage is stored on the periodic backup of the system. I’ll have to find out from the vendor. I’ll let you know shortly if it is or not." Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: xRANDOx on February 04, 2011, 08:42:05 PM Very sorry to hear. I definitely feel your pain though. January 20th, the day after my birthday, I walked out of my Apt. down to my truck and found my bike STILL laying on its side. NO video cameras. I figure some drunks probably tried to sit on it. Nothing I could do about it. The tank was dented, the bar lock was shot, the clutch cover was scuffed and lots of other goodies snapped off. Ended up talking to the insurance company, they totaled the bike but I ended up with more than what I payed for. So keep your head up, you never know how things will turn out.

Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: TiNi on February 13, 2011, 07:01:26 AM total bummer the tapes didn't give you anything.... :-\

Title: Re: sigh... someone dropped my new 796... Post by: thought on February 14, 2011, 10:40:36 AM i wonder if just getting a lockable cover would solve it. it has a cover on it now, i just didnt expect anyone in my building to drop the bike like that. taking it on and off everytime i get onto the bike is kind of a pain... especially when i cant just get off the bike and toss the cover on. gotta wait for it to cool down so i dont melt the cover off :\ and it did cross my mind that she was covering for someone else... but in the end, if she has the tapes... i dont think there is much i can do about it. i'm going to go and speak to her today about if it's a ok if they put up a sign saying something along the lines of "to whoever dropped the bike, please report yourself to the managment office before security footage is submitted to the local police department." might as well try it as the last ditch effort... and before i try to pry the rear brake pedal back into alignment :\ that being said, i at least got to take it out for ride yesterday since the weather has finally lightened up a bit. |
