Title: Mivv exhaust problems
Post by: IZ on January 31, 2011, 10:36:40 PM
I'm not reading good things about the Mivv pipes that I've been waiting to buy!!

Broken brackets (while riding) seem to be the theme.   :-X

Is this a common with CF pipes/brackets or just this brand?!

Two other brands are tied for second in the running..the Arrow Dark and the titanium Zards.

Think I should just go for one of these instead and save a potential headache err..heartbreak?

We've not had a single failure or Quality issue.. I don't know what happened with the Supermoto, we weren't involved in it, but MIVV made it right with the customer..

For the one on the Hyper, we didn't sell the pipe, but we tried to help the Customer.. It seems (from what we could tell), that the pipe wasn't installed properly and missing part of the mount.  We never could get the customer to provide the correct info that MIVV asked for in order to cover it.

We run these pipes on our bikes without an issue, and like I said, we've not had a problem with any of them we've sold - I'd match the quality to anything out there on the market.

That's great news! I know a lot of riders here have CF pipes. I didn't know of that was common for the brand or the material since I never looked into them. I'd still be very interested in buying them if that's the story behind the links I listed.

Get the MIVVs - one or two stories shouldn't be enough to scare you.
.... and if PJsParts stands behind their product, the risk is low.

Either way - there will be pictures?

 ;D ;D ;D

I just want to enjoy your excellent photography [thumbsup]

That's PJ of PJs parts.

Kopfjager has had MiVV pipes on his 620 for years now AFAIK he's never had issues

Mivvs sound best on a SuperDuke.  Just saying.   ;D

Think D's bike started off as an 800, didn't it?

Might be... I don't know for sure. But 620 or 800 would be the same parts # from MIVV, or any slip on for that matter. And the size of his bike doesn't really matter for this topic.

I've seen the Mivvs on 696's..not any 1100's yet.  But you're saying they'll work just fine?

Exactly.

The internet is ripe with horror stories about good products and good people just because it's an avenue for whiners.

It also can disclose junk products and people, but I don't think that's the case here.

Well, it didn't until someone called it wrong.   [cheeky]

So I spent a full hour searching the net for other "horror" stories of catastophic failures...

I found two... the sames on the OP mentioned. Pretty big stretch to call two failures of an entire line of a manufacturers product a problem.

You're not implying I was saying Mivv products are bad I hope?

My question was if any Mivv owners here experienced the same issues and if this was a common problem with CF pipes since I have never had any CF parts on either of my Ducs.

Iz, no issues at all with my Mivvs - they also came originally from PJ and arethe low mount round GPs on my M800. I've ridden with a shiteload of fellow DMFers here is Australia, and there's a pretty common comment that they are one of the best sounding and one of the loudest pipes in the pack (if not the best sounding)

No quality issues what so ever. Very happy to recommend them fully.

Thanks for the positive feedback G!  I am making the decision in the next 2 days. Have a few things to think about..too many choices!

Go with your gut instinct.

I'd say go for it.
I went through a similar thing last year when I bought my "Spark" pipes for my S2R1K
I had a look on the net to see if there was good or bad points about them.
I found the odd winger complaining about the quality, but they were what I wanted so I thought f*ck it just do it.

I Never regretted it

Sorry if my previous post seemed strongly worded... I never ment to imply that towards you at all. [beer]

I guess I was a little frustrated after reading the threads you provided. Really tho...... two failures... some of those guys were pretty paranoid that were posting. [roll]

No problems.  I just didn't want anyone to misinterpret the OP.  I was set on the Mivvs but found those articles when I was looking for extra pics.  They caused some concern.  As I mentioned previously, I don't anything about CF pipes.

Keep in mind, there may be only 2 bad reviews we found.  Not everyone has the internet though or writes up their reviews of products.  These may only be 2 of many problems people have had.  I do feel at ease though after hearing a lot of positive input about the Mivv now!  [thumbsup]

I disagree.

Every wingnut posts everywhere about his/her perceived problem regardless how minor.

I've got high mount mivvs on my 900, they sound very good to me but I wear ear plugs all the time.
Mine are cf and have had no problems. People tell me they sound really good and are on the edge of being to loud, but thats through town at 6:45 est.

I've added Suono's on my 620 and they look and sound fantastic, the CF tips seems to be holding up (bike sits out in the sun all day at work). They are appropriately sized for the little Monster, making stock pipes and many aftermarket look too long, particularly
with the ubiquitous tail chop. I did have a bracket fall off but the fasteners obviously came loose so not a mfg failure.
(The replacement pieces I got were not exactly correct but that's another story). Very happy with these.
