Snow-pocalypse 2011 is almost upon us.
It's suppose to hit us early tomorrow, just in time for the am commute. [thumbsdown]
Think of a new name -- snowpocalypse has been used for the last 12 storms.
The storm around DC last week managed a decent bit of thunder during it's course. So we got THUNDERSNOW!
I just figured the weather man was full of shit...but we have been hit pretty decent dow here...a little snow yesterday afternoon and then a little at nite. But has been windy and snowy all day...were suppose to get below 0 tonite [thumbsdown]
last time i checked i lived in New mexico, we dont get that cold!!

I added a hyphen and 2011. But if you want it more different then how about "Snow-mageddon 2011".

Doesn't Thundersnow sound like a bad '80s hair metal band playing at a casino?

Makes me think of Flagstaff where it'll thunder and lightning the same time it's snowing.

While you all are getting snow, we're getting another (somewhat) taste of winter here in Phoenix with only a high of 40* tomorrow. It's going to be a cool 30 minute ride to work tomorrow before the sun comes up. [moto]
Today in south Florida we are expecting a high of 83. I love this state.
everything has been closed here for the last two days. I might have to try to drive to the store later to get some fresh produce. There's 1/4" of ice coating everything right now.
still waiting for real snow.

The gas station up the road from me is even shut down. Couldn't fill up my car [laugh]

Yep, clusterf#@ked here in Dallas too. The wind was blowing ice cold air so hard around the edges of our front door (which faces north [bang]) that I put blue painters masking tape all along the sides and top. It has foam door seal tape but it was coming in like it wasn't even there! We have a "draft stopper" thing on the floor. Glad I went to the grocery store on Monday morning. I bet the shelves were bare by noon! Also glad I stacked up a shit load of firewood on the back patio which keeps me from having to run to the wood rack at the end of our driveway. North TX drivers suck anyway, this just makes it 100 times as bad. :P Probably a TX driver that "stuck" that landing in the pic! [laugh]
Hey, even Arizona is getting the chills - according to the Weather Channel, it was 25 degrees this morning but felt like 18, tomorrow the high is in the mid 40s....but fortunately by Sunday we should be back near 70.
Holy crap it was COLD this morning!!
I'm blaming the Steelers and Packers for bringing this cold weather with them to the Superbowl here in DFW. Probably makes them feel more at home! [laugh]
[cheeky]
Sunny and high 40's in Seattle. ;D When it snows here it is often thundersnow as well...pretty cool, but probably not as good as yours.
That pic is awesome (hope no one was hurt).

more snow chances here in DFW tomorrow night and early Friday. Roads are still SOLID ice. I wanted to ride this weekend, just three days ago they said 64 and sunny. No longer a pleasant weekend for us.

I have a good 30 mile drive into Mineral Wells to get groceries, and the sand trucks don't even come out this far. It's just a couple 1ft deep ruts I have to follow if I want some coffee and bread. Talk about cabin fever [laugh]
I tried to drive to town in my VW rabbit, but I was bottoming out on the snow between the tire ruts. Almost got stuck once, so I turned around. It's just too deep. It does great on the ice, but the deep snow stopped me.
Can't believe last saturday it was 80 degrees and I was wearing shorts!

FMD - thats.... thats a LOT of snow :o
well..............
We had a pipe decide to un-solder it's self in our wall yesterday evening...and proceeded to dump gallons of water into our house. We knew it was going to happen eventually as the washer and drier hookups are on an exterior wall...that faces north where the coldest winds blow from.
After ripping out sheet rock in anger last night I discovered that all the insulation in the wall was between the inside of the house and the pipe. pipe to outside wall? nah....who needs that? [bang]
So I have to find a plumber, as I don't possess the knowledge or equipment to sweat copper, that will drive 60 miles round trip, on unplowed roads....while it snows more. That might not seem unreasonable anywhere else in the US, but I imagine I'm going to be without water for a while, as this is Texas and driving in the snow is a no-no [thumbsdown]
I wish they would of atleast put some cut off valves here and there in the house so I could isolate the bad section and have water in the rest of the house. Maybe thats against some building code or something though, I don't know.

Shut offs cost money...it's a different code that it violates. Certainly not building codes. ;)
If you do find a plumber to come out it's gonna cost you.

make the beast with two backs the plumber (metaphorically). Compression fittings? >> http://www.jtmplumbing.co.uk/compression-40/fittings-42.html (http://www.jtmplumbing.co.uk/compression-40/fittings-42.html)
well we got 6 inches and they are calling for more through early evening here in DFW. [laugh]
Wife and I ran some errands and I must say that I'm still very impressed with her ML 350's 4MATIC.....son of a pregnant dog does a hell of a job on ice and snow. Of course, I'm not from here so I have plenty of experience driving in it. If nothing else it was fun to watch all the morons sliding everywhere.
this morning I sat my coffee cup on the car.

sweating copper is easy as hell. if you have the tools, of course.. you just need to be able to cut the pipe, scrape it, prep it and then fit, heat and touch with the solder. it's the easiest thing to do. propane torch is fine.

+1 Very easy. Home Depot or something will have all the stuff, and it isn't too expensive.

I manned up and fixed the damn pipes myself. [laugh]
Finally got a hold of a plumber, and well...If I had waited, we'd still be without water in our house. I went to the local ACE hardware and got a torch, some solder, and flux. Found out the reason it broke was because the previous plumbing job was not too hot (pipe was too short, so there was alot of tension on it). went back, bought some more pipe and did it up. Still working, since friday, so I guess I did okay.
But...Hope all you DFW folks have got your groceries stocked up. Sounds like we're about to go for round 2!!!!!!!
