It's a cost they may not be willing to pay for.

Not any more. I think it stopped in 1972. Then we started paying them to grow corn. Then they asked scientist to do something with all this corn and they did: fructose corn syrup, fuel, etc.............
King Corn the movie was a great documentary on the history of corn and corn politics.
