i use my cell phone for almost everything now days and by the time i get off work my battery is almost dead. has anyone hooked up a car charger to the battery of the bike to charge their phone? and can the charging system on a 09 848 handle a simple cell phone charger?
If you have a cigarette lighter charger that is made for your phone, you can connect a female plug to the battery - no problem.
i was thinking something like that, but not sure if the charging system on a bike is the same like a car. thanks for conformation
If I understand this correctly, the current coming from the battery varies in voltage. I'm not sure if the current from a car cigarette lighter varies. The male cigarette lighter plug for your phone has a voltage regulator on it, yes? I assume that it will take care of things. Just to make sure - maybe you should ask in a shop where they sell stuff like this?
I've connected a relay that runs both my grip heaters and a car charger plug that I plug my iphone into (or gps, what have you).
12V is 12V. Strap one on and worry not, plenty of juice for the small stuff.
Just tried to find the site in my favorites. May be on my other PC, but even then I'm sure there are a few sites that sell this kind of thing.
I have both a battery tender and a harness for heated gloves on my battery, but they make adapters to change one type of connection to another. Like Seevtsaab said, 12v is 12v, and as long as you have the hot running to the hot and the ground running to the ground, you should be just fine. Building your own shouldn't be that tough either if you have a soldering iron and a little know how.
im going to make something next weekend thanks for all the in put guys

Uh...
Why not take a wall charger to work?
Cheaper, and less likely to make the beast with two backs up your droid.
Just saying.

Yep. Powerlet is the site I was looking for.

when im at the office i can charge it off my pc but most of the time im out in the field and cant plug it in anywhere. and all the short trips from site to site is not long enough to use the car charger. and i have to keep it on me at all times in case of calls for work. then i have a 1 hour ride... i mean sit while i fight my way through traffic to go to class. by the time class is out my battery is on its last bar. and i cant listen to music on my ride home.

"12v" chargers rarely put out 12 volts to whatever they're charging. it's usually nocked down to something lower, which negates the 12v fluctuation.

That's what I thought [thumbsup] and decided to rely on :o
I personally have a C-Tek battery tender that I use, fortunately they come with a cigarette lighter add-on cable. Just need to put in a USB/Cigarette lighter adapter in there and I charge away with the usual iphone cable. I also use a phone holder on my handlebars that can run GPS as well which is handy.
Links below that will make more sense.
