Title: Best bang for my buck
Post by: tankerbutt on February 14, 2011, 07:49:52 AM
Hiya fellas,
looking for the boards infinate knowledge and advice. I have an '01 m600.  I'm debating between swapping out the motor for a 900 or getting a set FCR39's & lightened flywheel for the 600. It runs strong, but I'm getting a little bored with the little 600. I ride only spirited street, nota lot of opportunities for track riding. I'm mostly looking for more pep out of the ol' girl. Sooo, which option would provide the bestbang for my buck? I feel deep down inside the 900 is a better start and get 41 FCR when the funds allow.

I'd say a used 900 will probably run you 25% more than FCRs and a flywheel, assuming you're doing the labor yourself.

Mind you, the 900 motor then opens up a world of mods you can do on top of that.

Go with the 900. My personal advice is there's no replacement for displacement. ;D

You wont get 20 Hp w FCR, although they are nice...

+1 on all that advice.
Get an M900 and you get the extras and it's all done for you. Some bikes may already come with engine, carb and suspension mods if you look around.

You're splitting hairs. A turbo is just nature's way of fitting more displacement into a smaller space  ;D

Bang for buck = bigger motor. Although, as someone else pointed out, the OP might be better off selling the current bike and just buying a new "everything else" to go along with the bigger motor.

No, it's called Rotary. Not that that's the most reliable or common way to make power... Then again, you could argue that since it has more combustion cycles than a 4 stroke it's kinda like more displacement...

Anyways, find an M900. You might also make out with finding a model with better suspension than your 600, and dual brakes (if you want them) for not much more money, and a lot less trouble/downtime.

I bought a 2002 M900 for $2500.  Except for the tires and dents on the tank it was in pristine condition.  I too would just sell the one you have and find a used 900

thanks fellas for the insight, it looks like the vote is unanimous.  I'll be keeping a lookout for a good deal on a 900 bike/motor for a possible summer project.    [moto] [beer]
