It's your bike, do whatever you want to it!   :)  It won't cost much, and its easily reversed.
(Also, this thread belongs in Accessories & Mods, not Tech.)

It would be cheaper and have the same effect if you just ate a bunch of Taco Bell and took a massive shit on the bike.

Alternatively, you could park it in Chinatown and see if someone dumps a load of restaurant garbage on it, but that's been done.

Man, if your poo is glowing like neon, you need to go directly to the hospital.

Seriously, though: While it isn't something I would do to a bike, I think the effect is better if the neon tubes can be completely hidden so that all that can be seen is the glow.  This result is easier with a fairing.

I said the same effect, but I didn't mean the same visual effect.  I was referring to the effect on the value and overall look of the bike.

I say do it.  Just make sure to post pics so I can see what it looks like.  Have you ever thought about led valve stem caps:

Tail gunner exhaust.

It spins like a minigun when you ride.

It takes a big man to put neon and/or tail gunners on his bike.

I say "big man" because you'll need a pretty thick skin to handle all the well-deserved abuse heaped on you for having such a tacky bike.  ;D

Well I'm not down with neon, but that could actually be pretty cool on the right bike.  Iono, call me tacky I guess, lol.  If you had an all blacked out monster and you were trying to make it look mean, it could go with the scheme.  I've some streetfighters with brass knuckle heel guards and such.

i think the clown hat would help avoid the abuse.  it will throw people off as they won't think it's a serious effort.  sort of like calling a nun "pregnant dog" but then saying "JUST KIDDING!"

For sake of ridicule...here is my all blacked out bike with neons! Call it tacky if you want. It helped for visibility sake for night time riding.  I liked it. But, I have taken them off just because...I no longer wanted them on.  I say do it...just be tasteful.  Remember, it is your bike so do with it what you want. There are alot of people on here that have done some absolutely hideous things to their bikes...but as long as I don't have to ride then they can do what they want!

if you watch spartacus, (or even if you don't), I encourage you to frequently yell "JUPITER'S COCK!" because it will certainly turn heads.

It's like plastic surgery. If it's done well, people will think it looks great without really realizing what work you've had done.

If it's done poorly, people will look at you and think "Jesus, those tits are totally crosseyed."

PERSONALLY: on the old monster, I think that the two places to mount the strips are on the underside of the tank and on the inside of the "side panels." slauster gives a pretty good example. I think it would look even better if you had pod intakes and color-coordinated with the pods and/or the rest of your bike. That is, if you've got the red K&N pod filters, using red neon/LED on the underside of your tank.

But as several have mentioned, it's YOUR bike. You're free to do as you choose. As painful as it may make your bike to look at and/or ride.

Well, Jett, you can see the kind of reaction you will get if you do.
I did the same thing, in asking, before I put them on myself.
But, I figured try'em if i like them keep if not take them off.  No big deal.
But as you see the "purists" of the bunch will scoff and those who want to create will create.
As for me i no longer have them on the bike.  That is the beauty of customization, it is a constant refinement.  And once you think you have "arrived" with your final design...someone will be a critique and you then start all over again or say "screw it and just ride!"

I think they could be cool if properly applied.  [Ducks!]

I'd classify it about the same way I would a 696/1100 monster....

They look good when done right.

Most look like ass.

Some people like them.

My wife and I like to use that, though not when our daughter is around.   ;)

There are some great quotes from that show.

As said, it can be done fairly easily and it can look good, but when it looks even slightly wrong it looks REALLY wrong.

I wouldn't mind some machined belt covers with a faint glow behind them or something under the tail hooked in with the brake/running light.

the key (as with all MC accessories) is to use it subtly, better to under do it than overdo it.

So the theme of classy and moderation keep coming up in regards to the neons...They are a touch 1993, but what about taking the time and doing a super clean install of some WELL PLACED AND HIDDEN leds? If done right, they can really make a bike look great.

A buddy of mine has an amazing 1198s..no expense spared on tuning, but when he just likes a little cruuuuuzin, he has a nicely chromed Victory with over 20 leds. Granted, more suited for this type of bike, they're well installed with no sign of wires anywhere. It looks great to even me-I hate cruisers!

Good luck with this one my friend!

Here's a thought.
One of the unique features of Ducati's is the dry clutch.
If you were to run one of the open clutch covers, you could hide LEDs under it.
The question is do LEDs respond quickly enough to make the clutch basket "freeze" or better yet appear to slowly revolve.
One of DMFs electronic guru's could put together a small switching box, picking up its timing pulse off the primary side of one of the ignition coils.
