Title: Old Moto Magazines?
Post by: triangleforge on February 19, 2011, 01:18:22 PM
I've spent a good portion of the last week helping a friend's widow start to excavate his garage to get the property ready for sale. Tom had a bit of hoarder in him, so it's a pretty big job just taking stock of what's there; I'm probably a third of the way through the boxes he had stacked in the attic. (Note to self: don't inflict piles and piles of dusty stuff on the people I leave behind.)

One thing I'm finding in large numbers -- boxes and boxes of old motorcycle magazines. Tempting as it is to kick back in the old go-kart race seat that's next to the attic stairs & thumb through them, I've only glanced at a couple of covers to get an idea for titles & eras: so far, I've spotted lots of Motor Cyclist, Cycle & AMA member mags from the early/mid 1980s, a couple of binders of Motorcycle Classics, and a random assortment of others. Who knows how many more there are up there?

It seems a shame to toss them all in the recycling bin, but I don't know what (if any) market there might be for them, or another way to get them into the hands of folks who'll enjoy them.

I did that years ago, then again when my wife (now ex-wife) and I separated 10 years ago. Had Cycle News, Cycle, Motorcyclist, etc. going back to the 70s. It was fun yet kinda sad to sort through them. I finally just stopped and got mercenary about it and just tossed them all in big boxes and off to the recycling bin they went. Even some old Ducati International Owners Club newsletters from the early-mid 80s! Oh well, gotta move on. Can't take it with you. I really need to do that with everything I have. Way too much pack rat in me. [bang]
