Title: Session Timed Out error
Post by: fasterblkduc on May 06, 2008, 05:48:03 PM
Hey guys, I tried sending a PM to Statler but it kept telling me that my session timed out and to retry. I couldn't get it to work. Also, how do I invite someone? I looked around for these answers but couldn't find anything.

Thanks!

Logout and log back in, that should fix the PM issue.

You'll need to invite people by e-mail or PM in TOF.

Having periodic problems with posting and pm's

whenever I try to do either, it tells me: "Session timed out, please try resubmitting post"

Then I tried to log out, and got another error.

Had to clear my cookies and log in again to get it to work.

This seems to be a sporadic error, I've encountered it but can't isolate why it's happening.

Noted, so we'll try to get it handled.

I've also experienced that three or four times so far.  Usually after I've carefully written a long response to some post and it won't let me post it.

I also have to log in again each time I visit, even though I keep clicking the box that tells it to leave me always logged in.

Let's see, deal with the bugs of a new forum or deal with dozens of ads that just won't hold still....  I think I'll help iron out the bugs.  ;)

I noticed that yesterday, and today while responding to a PM.
FYI, additionally, when I try to add names to the "Send" field for PMs it changes the names to code.

I just tried it, and it matches up membernames with what you've typed in, IE suggesting names for what you typed in so far.
If I type in 'fre' it fills in "Fresh Pants".

Is that what it's doing for you?

Nope. Wasn't doing that, but in classic car repair form, I tried to recreate the issue and it's not doing it now. And my PMs seem to work fine now.  ???
Maybe it's working?

I could claim I fixed it, but that's not very believable.  ;:|

Glad it's sorted.

me too

perhaps a clue:  it worked when I didn't use a smiley.  I was then able to go back and modify the post with the smiley...

No smileys for me...I'm accessing through proxy server.  I wasn't even able to logout.

I'm having the timeout issue too. I don't want to retype so I'm trying to be patient...the new smileys are cool!

Test.

-----Edit----
No issue on this reply, but it hasn't happened to me since I logged on this AM, so that may not mean much.

it's still doing it, and i have a theory... let me test it

nope... nevermind... theory incorrect

add to the weirdness: i can't logout by clicking on the logout button.

i have to physically delete the cookie to log out.

logging in again allowed me to successfully post.

let me clarify ;)

if you were having this issue, delete your cookies *then* logout, log back in, and let me know if you continue having the problem.

Isn't that what the error says msg says to do? (but the cookies is new)

yes desmo, but for some people when they get the error they can't log out at all (it just keeps spitting the error).  Deleting the cookies should allow them to. wt:

This error just happened to me.
I had logged in shortly before, and it happened on my first post attempt.

Tried to logout, and it wouldn't do it.
Cleared my cookies, and it let me logout, log back in, and post.

Running IE in WinXP on a GatewayPC if that may have anything to do with it.

I got the error yesterday as well.  Had to shut the browser down completely and relaunch it to get in.

Just got hammered again by a variation of this error.
It said the topic was closed or off-limits or something like that....

For reference to anybody that has just done a long typing session and gets clipped when trying to post...
Go up and click the 'back' button, copy the text, log back in, go back to where you were replying, and paste the text in.
I'm a *really* slow typist, so I've learned the hard way.  :-[

This is happening to me quite frequently over the last couple of days.  I have the site up but minimized while I am at work, when I get a few moments I'll bring it up and check to see what's happening.  I get this error every time I try to send a PM after I haven't been active for a while (not sure what constitutes a while though).  I can't log out when this happens either.  I have to clear the cookies before I can log in again and have it work properly.

SheMonster: Do you have "stay logged in" checked, or are you just using the default 60 minutes?

We're working to track this down, but as it's sporadic it's being a bit of a pain.  when you post up that you're having issues, please give as much information as you can about how you're using the board and specifically if you're doing anything unusual.

Examples of things worth mentioning:
*Weather you're checking "stay logged in"
*That this problem is only happening on your home computer after being logged in fine at work all day
*Accessing the site through a firewall, content filter, or proxy

Thanks!

In the boxes on the top right when I log in with screen name and password, it has a stay log in "Forever" box open.  This is from my work computer, not sure what firewalls there are?   Sorry, I'm not tech savvy enough to know what info is important for you  :-\

thats good start. when you say the forever box is "open" do you mean unchecked?

No, its a drop down box.  There is a box for screenname, a box for password, and then the drop down box.  Forever seems to be the default, I just logged out to look at it and when you open the drop down box your choices are 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, Forever.  it defaults to Forever.

gotcha. thanks!

once you do the cookie clear and logout cycle, you're ok again until leaving it inactive for an unspecified period of time?

OK, it just happened again, and I wasn't inactive for very long.  So, I try to log out and this is the error I receive:

An Error Has Occurred!
Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.

Back

I am unable to do anything until I close the browser, clear the cookies and start over.

Every time I tried to post I get the session timed out error and when I try to logoff I get the session verification issue.  I have to delete the cookie and logout/log back in everytime I want to post or send a PM.

I get them...occaisionally.

We're going to try and fix thing tonight....late...http://ducatimonsterworldwide.org/index.php?topic=1179

We really hope that one particular thing gets resolved...it's a PITA and we apologize.

A workaround that I've found works...

If you get the dreaded message (which I do all the time), preview your post.  Once it's previewed, then "post" it and it seems to work just fine.  I imagine the stuff we're doing tonight shoudl remedy this, but in the meantime this should help out.

Did you guys apply the patch in the Admin module? I know we used version 1.1.4 and recently applid the patch to bring it up to 1.1.5. This might fix some of the issues you guys are having.

Seems to be cured.
