So, after trolling a bunch of sites, thanks GM, Lester and Squeak, I found a decent 2000 SV650. The asking price is $3k and the seller is firm.
The good.
GSXR front end/Race Teched
Ohlins shock
Bone Stock motor
GSXR rearsets
Stock forks with Race Tech Emulators
Two Sets of wheels
Some other stock items and an after market half fairing
Street Legal
Frame Sliders and Fork/swingarm Sliders
The Bad
Seller price is firm
Bike is in Santa Cruz
No track fairing
I really feel I should get some movement on the price but the guy is stuck. After making the above list I feel a little better about the price but still feel it is slightly over priced.
Am I being a biotch or should I walk?
Sounds reasonable to me, but the kicker is I'm assuming you haven't personally inspected it.
Perhaps a knowledgeable MOBster can look at it for ya?
Are you planning on racing, or just tracking it?
knowing absolutely nothing about SV model years my gut reaction...as yours must also be... is that's a tad expensive for a 2000. but not necessarily something i wouldn't get over in about 5 minutes of riding it on the track the first time. no bodywork is a slightly expensive missing item.
you might want to call Andy @ West Coast GP Cycles. 310-477-0997. he's an track SV guru and a nice guy. tell him what you're looking at... maybe with the, um, implication that you're going to take the bike to him once you get it (not a bad idea).. and i bet he'd have a good idea what it should cost. or he might have a line on others for sale.

Actually, 3k is prolly about right. There's a supply/demand issue for prepped SVs and they generally go for between 3k-5k. Also, first gen SVs are more popular than the later ones with many racers and can therefore command a decent premium.
Anyhow, more than anything else you just need to see it/check it out and then let your gut do the talking.
Lester has agreed to check out and transport the bike for me if the thing shakes out. He usually flies up north for work every week and is willing to drive his monster truck up one week.
The price is about right but not being able to see/touch the thing makes it a bit difficult.
The guy that owns it, bought it new and has put 20k on it. From talking to the guy and looking at the photos, he seems pretty maticulous about his stuff which is always a plus. Might be on the fringes of OCDC! [cheeky]
The suspension is set for a slightly bigger rider so I think if its as sorted as advertised I can ride it as on the track and street.
I started looking for a track bike but have started to miss Sunday morning in the canyons. This bike allows for both. No racing for me as I'm too slow and poor to get into racing.
price is right on. Suspension alone is nearly half of that, if not more. streetable usually adds to resale. Clean title? +1 on everything Daryl said (as it should be, since he taught me most of what I know about SVs [laugh])
+1 on Andy @ GP
I've got a spare set of (allegedly) repairable fairings currently hanging at TSFKAFC*. If you can fix em and use em, you can have em. [thumbsup]

Thanks for all the info. Thanks for the offer Squeak. I'll probably take you up on the offer.
If I can't find an OCC chopper that is track ready I'll probably try to pick this one up! [clap]
I'd do it Greg [thumbsup] Can't beat Lester's offer either........ simply awesome guy [beer]
Only down side I see is that we'll spend Sunday on the scoots instead of the bicycles & I'll be 230 lbs. before the summer's over [laugh]
p.s. I've got plenty of friends up in S.C. if you need any other help.
We can ride bicycles on Saturday mornings and motos on Sundays. [moto]
I might take you up on having someone check out the bike. Anyone have a clue about motorcycles up there?
Lots of track whores in the MOBster ranks, and a good number of knowledgeable folks.
Give a shout in the MOB forum, see if anyone there can give the bike a once-over.
They're a friendly bunch, and beer is an excellent bribe.

Well, I looked long and hard for a 675. No luck. Started sniffing out the SV650 and couldn't get the perfect bike. So, after a bit of consideration I ended up with the 650's big brother. Found this SV1000s in the valley. Guy had a fleet of bikes all spotless and nicely moded. This one was no exception. He said he had weighed it on his scales (no joke, he showed me the scales) and with a tank of gas she weighed 444lbs. Not a light weight but not bad. She is not a track weapon but I realized that with the price of gas I needed a street legal bike to off set the SUV's thirsty nature.
Looks like I don't know how to post photos on this site. [bang]
Use your imagination, two wheels, silver, vroom, vroom!
The CRF is safe in her role as the track tard.
Awesome Brother...

sure!
I looked at the link for posting photos. [bang] I have a wicked case of ADD, nuf said.
I'm anxious to get the bike in the canyons ASAP. Probably Sunday morning in the Bu' at a minimum. I'd like to get the suspenders dialed in as well. The guy had the forks done up but the shock is a stocker. Not complete crap but. . .
Sunday or Saturday early AM ride?
out of town...I'm all talk... [laugh]
here she is...
the board isn't liking these images when posted in-line, maybe too big. but here are links to em:

Big photos for a big man!!! [cheeky]
The thing is silky smooth for sure. Shifts nicely and has a lot of low end grunt. Doesn't care for clutchless shifts at higher rpms but. . . Single exhaust lets out a nice grumble but not obnoxious. Heli bars make her pretty comfy too. Steel lines for the breaks and radial mount resivors which I don't think came stock.
Took it to some twisty bits yesterday for a quicky and she did ok. The previous owner did the forks up with LE valves and springs so they work pretty well. The stock shock not so much. Gonna try to get to the SV shop on the westside tomorrow and get the knobs twisted a little and see how she does after that. Probably invest in a shock futher down the line. Can't beat it for $4200 at this point.
Thanks GM for posting up my thumbnails. Bigger photos to follow!!!!!! [drink]
WOW Dude, that sounds like a steal!!! [thumbsup]

When you're ready for the track, it seems a gsxr swap is the prevalent mod for the front. I like my Elka rear, but I'm too stupid and slow to know any better. ;D Do you mean West Coast GP for the SV shop? Maybe I'll see you, I need to pickup my bike tomorrow or Friday [thumbsup]
Yeah, I'm talking about the same place. What is their exact address?
I feel like I got a decent deal on the bike. I don't think it is the most popular bike so the buyer has a bit of an advantage. I was supposed to look at a bone stock 06 and the guy called me back and said he sold it for $3500 including a jacket and helmet.
I'm hoping to take the last few steps to make it track worthy and a bit more schvelt but that won't probably happen for a while. I don't think it would be much fun at Streets but Buttonwillow would be a good track to test it out.
Congratulations!!!

That is a sweet looking bike. I dig the half trellis/ half twin spar frame. It looks really really clean.
Let me know about this riding thing. I have a Speed Triple that needs abusing.
Lester
BTW, any rethinking on Buttonwillow 7/6? ;D

I'm shooting for a Sunday morning for a Malibu run. Gus hasn't chimmed in yet but I'll guess I can twist his arm a bit for a canyon run. Any interest?
I'll check with the "boss" on the 6th. You bringing the hauler out there?
Went to GP cycles yesterday. Had the suspension dialed in a bit. The rear isn't confidence inspiring at this point. It was stepping out a bit before and now it wallows through the turn. The compression was alreadt full hard so not much to do at this point. New shock might be sooner then later. The conventional forks are not bad.
Gus and I rode yesterday. We decided to run our bicycles around PV rather then the motos in Malibu.
I am indeed using the hauler. You're welcome to share in the air cond. :)

I picked up a Penske shock and will be waiting to track the SV until I get the schock bolted on. The CRF isn't the best tool for Buttonwillow so. . .
I'll probably wait until fall before I get on the track again at this point. :-\

you have it in your hand? if so, bring it over. shoudn't take more than an hour or so.
Derby,
Thanks for the offer. I won the auction and paypaled yesterday. Hoping to have it in my hand early next week. I may take you up then if the offer still stands. Also, depending on the condition it may need a rebuild. Seller says no but. . .

contact penske. iirc, they used to do one free service with their shocks.
i bought a used penske for my first racebike and they serviced it for the cost of shipping.
another good-to-know thing for people in the market for a penske: they're modular. more times than not, they'll retrofit the shock for another bike for ~$100 or so. so if you find any penske for sale cheap, there's a good chance it can be made to fit your bike for a small fee.
