Title: s2r chain guard delete, big deal?
Post by: cobrajet on February 26, 2011, 05:59:56 AM
How annoying is it to run without the front chain guard on a s2r? Do you end up with chain lube and rainwater shooting on your leg? Or worse yet does it suck in your jeans and naw a chunk out. Really prefer the clean look. thanks, bill

I've been running without my guard for quite some time now. Unless you wear baggy pants, your pants aren't gonna get sucked in there. In terms of lube being flung onto your leg, I have not experienced this at all.

As long as you use a chain was and not lube you should get no fling.

Meh. You're gonna get chain fling pretty much no matter what you use. Thankfully, the small countershaft sprocket being where it is, most of it will just get stuck to the engine case right there.

It think the main reason it's on there is, as mentioned, to make it more difficult to get stuff stuck in there.

I'd be a little bit more wary of outside debris getting in there and doing bad things to your chain and/or sprocket. A case saver wouldn't be a bad idea, but then, they pretty much never are.

been touring on my monster for 8 or 9 years now without the front chain guard guard and never had a problem.

is the front chain guard that thing that is linked onto the swingarm?

ive gone through 3 of them. They keep breaking at the bolt eyelet. I was weary about taking it off as well. Was even thinking about a CF replacement...

I ran no chainguard for years but hwnr I took my bike to the track it did not pass inspection. They sent me away.......no chainguard. So what. You''ll be fine without one. They are ugly anyway.I dont think I have run a chainguard on a bike that was every day use in nearly 30 years. Meh.
