Recently bought the NGK DCPR8E spark plugs.. (didnt know the cap is removable ) Today went to the dealer and bought the original ducati champions.
which one should i put on? right now i have the Champions on. Am i going to see/feel any difference if i put the NGKs on?
NGK's i've always been happen with them in cars and in the Duc. right now i think i have the ones as you, but going to bump up to iridiums come this spring.
Those iridiums won't perform any better than standard plugs, just cost more. Won't see a difference with NGK vs. Champions either. Go with whichever costs less. I've used NGK iridiums and saw no difference between them and the original Champs. One fouled out so I replaced both with I-can't-remember but they work fine too. Not a whole lot of difference, but the marketing does get you excited doesn't it.
It seems to me that I've had more trouble with Champions than other plugs. Of course I don't have any documented statistics but it's happened often enough that I avoid them.
I never had trouble with the OEM Champions, but when replacement time came...read service, the dealer replaced them with NGK.
I think it had more to do with cost of OE Duc Champs vs over the counter NGK.
I have a lawn mower with 20 years on a Champion plug. There isn't anything wrong with either.
I paid 4$ for the NGK DCPR8E and 8.8$ for the Champion.
the only reason i got both was because i didnt know i can unscrew the cap so it fits on the wires..
oh well .. i ll keep it original , im going to use the Champions. :)
My car came with 4 fancy iridium plugs from the factory. They last longer, but they had better at $9.50 a piece. I replaced them with the standard NGK plugs. I have seen no noticable change in power and no difference in gas mileage.
Once I win the lottery I will buy a dyno and spend all my time gathering evidence that is not anecdotal at best. Till then I'm gonna save the $16 bucks when I can, so I spend it on [drink]
