Ok I am looking for a superbike, but I want a 748 or a 749, can anyone help?  reasonable price, reasonable distance to go get.

I'd probably go with a later model 749.

LYD, your welcome to ride my 999 on the Muenster ride for a while today if you haven't had a chance to get the feel for one of the Terblanche SBKs.  

the red one is sold, and not really  looking for another yellow,  i know everyone is in AAHHHHH, but yes Iwant to experience so much more!! not in a big hurry to jump on anything,  and thanks lisa i just may take you up on that!  [thumbsup]

the difference in comfort level between the 749/999 and pre/post SBKs is MASSIVE.  Take a ride on mine or Lisa's, and then hop on a 748/996 or an 848/1x98 and you will see.  Not that this should be your only guide, as clearly the later models have quite a power advantage, but for some of the longer rides, the comfort of the 749/999 is pretty freakin' awesome.  You can even ride them with an inflamed prostate...  [thumbsup]

There is also the famous potential rocker flaking issue on the Tamburini 748s. Be wary of that. I don't recall any outstanding similar "famous" issues on the 749s. Regarding comfort, either bike can be fitted with Heli-bar clip ons which certainly help some. Doesn't turn either one into a Barcalounger but even without the fused neck vertebrae I would have made the change. Adding a Zero Gravity Double Bubble screen makes for a really nice combo package given the added bar height. We're still only talking an inch maybe 1.5" taller.

I also have the DP "comfort" seat on my 999. Again, slight improvement like the Heli-bars. Nothing dramatic. I know Lisa has done a banzai Arkansas ride on her 999 and Jari (the previous owner of my 996S) did some multi day AR rides on the 996S. Me? I'd need a chiropractor and a massage therapist following me in a sag wagon if I tried that. ;D

Good luck with the bike hunt. I think the perfect superbike would be the slightly more modern Terblanche 749/999 with the iconic bodywork of the Tamburini 748/916. [thumbsup] [moto] [bacon]

went and lookedat that one,  piece of crap!  young kid who did nothing with the bike except drop it on both sides. offered 2500 he stuck to 3300 needed service one of the clutch spring were the bolt screws in was broke on one.   looks better in the pic.   


talked with that guy, he still has the buke, but I really dont want another yellow bike,

LYD, I think what might be helpful is for you to ride my '04 999 that's got a factory hp rating of 124 (measured at the crank).  The reason I say this is because I think you might be narrowing your shopping field unnecessarily to the 7xx series motos.

Having come from a M620, the transition to 120-ish horsepower was pretty much without drama (I'll  ignore the 110 mph in a 60 on the demo ride just for the time being); obviously the 999 has gobs more power but it has a FANTASTIC chassis and brakes to match.  Confidence-inspiring would be an understatement.

So, all of that to say, don't rule out a larger displacement SBK - they're not called *super* bikes for nothing  [thumbsup]

Nice one Rich! [clap] I had a conversation one time over the phone with a medical insurance customer service yahoo regarding the MAJOR increase in my co-pay on a certain Rx I have to take. It was going no where, around and around in circles. I finally asked her what my co-pay would be if I just make the beast with two backsing dropped dead? How much would they charge me to just die? 1st i have been doing research after researchon 748 vs 748s vs 748r vs 749..........

and this bike in okc is not an  S  1st dead giveway is no adjustable footpegs, so I am not bothering with that. i have looked from here to WV where I was before, I know I could get donnie to pack it up and ship it to me, he does it alot.  no hurry, plus like lisa said, i may want a bigger one.  mindy said go get a new 848, if thats what you want. but I'm not sure yet.  Nothing has really made me say wow I want that!! but thanks to all.

O.K. three things;

1) My only real "issue" with an 848 is the wet clutch.  Clearly a personal preference though.
2) LYD, are you made of rubber?  Most people with bones find the Tamburini bikes torture racks (albeit exquisitely beautiful ones).  Make sure and ride one before you buy it.
3) May I also recommend a track day to go along with your superbike.  Just one track day should do.

My 748's not bad on the body at all.  Haven't really had those issues, even on one of those long slab rides into the hill country...

If you are not AARP eligible it's really not that bad. Especially with the taller bars and Double Bubble ZG windscreen. Like I said, Jari did AR rides on the 996S. Of course then again, he's got that whole young, uberman, super power, Euro, Finnish thing going for him and I'm just an old, balding guy from Texas. What do you expect? [laugh]

Even if I dont buy it here is a tip, Dont eat yellow snow!!   ;D I talked to him on the phone and he said someone was going to look at it tomorrow, but said he would let me know what the outcome was.  5500 is a bit much for a stock bike with 15k miles and not a one service record.  But the bike is clean, but it may also need a front tire, so we'll see.

Just fyi, if the internal pump hoses and filter haven't been replaced in a while, I'd take care of that.  I got stranded on the side of the road a couple of times troubleshooting the bike dying and finally figured out the internal feed hose was popping off the pump due to old age....

well my tax person told me to hold off on anything for awhile it looks like I OWE THE MAN.  so instead of shipping the bike over stuart right now I've decided to get upclose and personal with it.  a major cleaning will also be done, but a 100% going over.  Plus I can paint the belt covers while in there. so I have also ordered my dual socket for the rear axle, so the wheels will be off also.

Now for some good news:
I recently sold mindy's bike to tyler.   his 1st payment he ordered a set of arrows for the 748. well they arrived, so I unwrapped them and went to put them on, well there not 45mm they are 50mm cans.  but i needed a new midpipe, so i called them back and they have a 45/50 mid pipe.  which they are sending me pics to see if thats what I need. more to come

Well  the new midpipe should be here by friday!!!   

Hope that takes care of the fitment issue with the slip ons. [thumbsup] So did you order the SpeedyMoto dual sided rear axle socket? Like I said, a chunk of change but damn well made and it will last several lifetimes! ;D

well the accountant says the 748 can go get serviced, so  friday around noon it will be at stuarts!  finally, not sure how much more cleaning i can do!

Stuart called this morning.    He said the 748 was good to go.  No rocker flaking!    He had to change 12 of the 16 shims.  Will probally go get it Sat.  Need to talk to richd, to get some minor welding done on the new exhaust.

As of now its being put back together.  Thanks CJ for coming over to help unload!!  [thumbsup] All I have left is the front fairing and the side fairings to put back on. I really want to clean them up while they are off.  Mindy and I are going out to dinner, so the rest will have to wait until we return, but it WILL be done tonight.  does it matter if I have extra bolts left when I am done?  Or is that considered dropping weight? If it doesnt rain tomorrow?? There will be a classic in your driveway around 3:30ish.  Stuart said it was good to go, suggested to get an oil cooler and a new slave cylinder.  but nothing major!  so I am very happy!!  375 bucks for 5 hrs of labor!!!   Man I love that guy!!!  Plus while I was there I met red ducati, he was dropping off his triumph  and his duc.

the arrows aren't as loud as the d&d's but damn it sound much better than the stock pipes!   Lets all do the NO RAIN DANCE FOR TOMORROW!!!!

 I realized that the exhaust I got had the bolts with it.  So as richd said "i hope i got everything"  But I did a double  takeand everything I took off had all the bolts back on it.

Well the sun god decided to bless us today, so I took it for its inspection, Pass of course!  and man is that thing different from a monster.  It  rides really nice, but I am going to have to get use to it.  So it looks like we need a ride!  [moto]

What would you say where the main differences?  I really like the 748/9 848 models but have only ridden a Monster. 

seating position, ass in the air! way leaning forward.  squashed nuts, just all around differsnt.  next time we are all together you will have to take it for a ride.  [moto]  

Try sticking your butt out, arch your back, and putting more belly weight on the tank.

It sounds funny, but if you do it right you'll be more comfy, and there is NO weight on your wrists.
That is very important to good form.   [thumbsup]
