Title: With or without front fairing? Post by: rideserotta on February 28, 2011, 09:01:56 PM I'm trying to decide on whether to keep the front fairing on my '05 620. I kinda like the look of it both ways. Which look do you prefer and if there's a reason why just let me know.
Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: kopfjÀger on February 28, 2011, 09:04:03 PM Without. Reason simply is Naked bike. ;)
Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: Novelo on February 28, 2011, 09:11:42 PM I go without my experience is the fairing caused helmet buffeting when up to speed and of course the looks are better IMO
Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: SacDuc on February 28, 2011, 09:58:53 PM Boobies. sac / >:( Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: MadDuck on February 28, 2011, 10:50:41 PM I used to ride with and without the headlight fairing. Overall I like it better with it on. I like the looks of it.
Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: stopintime on February 28, 2011, 11:29:08 PM On a picture - maybe without.
With me on the bike (6' 4") - with. Bike needs a bit of visual size.... Dirty air / wind helmet buffeting is reduced without it. Protection / top speed is better with. Off in the heat on in the cool. Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: yamifixer on March 01, 2011, 09:25:12 AM I took mine off and kinda liked it but the wifey-poo said she liked it more with so I put it back and that is how it stays.

Off in the heat on in the cool. Are you talking about the fairing or the boobies doin' it? Sorry, mind in the gutter there for a moment. ;D Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: junior varsity on March 01, 2011, 05:53:12 PM mine is off! (much like my shirt and pants whenever possible.)
that said, when i picked up this other monster, i decided i needed a "pleasure-cruiser" setup, so i am adding to the creature comforts: The old school fairing is on. Regular ol' one-piece handlebar is on. Squishy seat will go on. Heated grips will go on. Heated gear plug ins will go on. GPS mount will go on. Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville margarita machine will go on. VibeRider: tbd. Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: ian48th on March 01, 2011, 09:43:37 PM Definitely off for me.
Only reason I've considered putting it back on is to protect the instruments from rain when riding. Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: Privateer on March 02, 2011, 07:17:10 PM I like it with the fairing but only with some kind of fairing stays. The buffeting was horrible without and I could watch the top end of it flap around at highway speed.
With the fairing stays on, the air pressure coming at my head was actually disorienting, but it smoothed out the flow so it's more predictable and cut the wind noise some too. Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: Turf on March 02, 2011, 07:33:59 PM I didn't like the fairing, hit my helmet wrong and wore my neck out trying to keep my head from flinging side to side.
Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: Grendel on March 02, 2011, 09:04:22 PM Purely from an asthetics perspective, without the fairing.
It makes it look tougher. The fairing sometimes reminds me of a toupee. Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: danaid on March 02, 2011, 10:47:48 PM I removed mine for the first time for the past month to get the complete naked look, and I have decided that I like the front fairing ON.
To me the monsters look more evil [evil] with them on. Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: NFJ79 on March 02, 2011, 11:11:24 PM I have a S2r Dark, so my monster didnt come with a fairing. I bought a used one from this forum and I like the look with it on.
Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: ollie on March 02, 2011, 11:40:49 PM off. Reason, it looks like balls [puke]
Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: duc996 on March 03, 2011, 01:43:39 AM Off for me,looks so much meaner without it.Naked all the way.
Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: junior varsity on March 03, 2011, 06:23:06 AM fun comparison pictures:
rockin' the super old school 98-99 M900 fairing (in carbon, o' course) (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_4iYlZ1m8UEM/TW-jrnqNIAI/AAAAAAAAGJc/FF-NRtOnWI0/s400/M900-w.JPG) Above Picture is from January-ish, early in the rebuild progress (I also happened to score, after much searching, a really trick Monster S4 Cup front fairing, which is essentially the same thing - uses same windscreen part, and same mounts, but has no headlight hole) (http://pix.crash.net/motorsport/360/39783.jpg) And then, there's the "without" version of the Monster in my garage too: (https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_4iYlZ1m8UEM/TWshG4E6hwI/AAAAAAAAGDg/ymlp92Lsc4Y/s400/IMG_9486.jpg) Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: WhiteStripe on March 03, 2011, 06:29:15 AM I am always off.

Post by: jerryz on March 03, 2011, 02:13:34 PM I own 3 monsters and find the fairing cause buffeting and handling problems so i remove them ..also the bike looks better IMHO
Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: rideserotta on March 05, 2011, 01:49:51 PM Ok... It's off. I like it.
Do I have to worry about the wiring underneath the instrument cluster being exposed to rain? Also, how easy is it to drop the cluster a couple of inches so it's closer to the headlight? Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: SOLOMONster on March 05, 2011, 03:12:49 PM I like that it continues the stripe motif on my s2r.
Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: junior varsity on March 07, 2011, 10:03:07 AM if you ever ditch it, get your headlight bucket painted that way.
Title: Re: With or without front fairing? Post by: rideserotta on March 07, 2011, 03:58:59 PM This probably makes NO sense whatsoever but I rode the bike sans fairing today and it honestly felt like it handled better. I mean a ton better. Dont know if it was the sight line, less bulky front end or what, but I can't believe how different it felt. I know, I know... Crazy.
Oh, and the helmet buffeting? Non-existent w/o the fairing. I think it's off the bike for good now. |
