I'm guessing that for 647 Euro they'll have it for a while longer. :P

i just brought one of these (for a lot less than above) and it does not fit well at all!!! it has genuine looking ducati performance sticker and the materials are good quality. i have a 12/02 build, 03 model m800dark. it has a metal tank.

first up the latch on the back does not click in, but thats easy fixed with a bend/spacer. also the shape of the rear most point is nothing like the shape of the tail light and i think it looks a little awkward, tho i do intend to chop the rear when i pull this bike down in two weeks which may improve this view. lots of parts to put on while i am without licence over the next three months!!

but the biggest problem is that seat cushion does not match up to the tank near as well as it should!! it bunches up at the centre and leaves gaps on the sides exposing the form of the tank and where the original seat has rubbed through the paint.

has anyone fitted one of these? did you have the same issues?

meanwhile i will fire up my other computer and upload the images I have of those seats installed.

i guess on one side, i've seen noted that carbon fiber from CarbonDream has been a PITA to fit elsewhere - the one in my mind in particular is the Carbon Dream kit for the MH900e - but counterpoint is the Carbon Dream track/race left & right fairings / belly pan for my SBK: Were a breeze to install, and includes kevlar backing on the carbon for strength (for when I inevitably try sliding into home plate on the motorcycle).

that there is a custom made swingarm to accommodate a 999 wheel!! not the way i would have gone about it, i woulda found another wheel!! musta cost a bomb!

Title: Re: Looking for a mono seat? (96949202B)

i think no?

it appears to be a JMC or Metmachex swingarm (hence braced design for hoop-era swingarm and eccentric axle adjusters) powdercoated black - they can make it work with any rear wheel you want, and it uses its own axle. I lean towards JMC since powdercoated black is an option in the drop-down menu when doing a quote.

If the seat has trouble fitting on/at tank, it might be that it is for the cutout design on the earlier tanks, rather than the later tanks (there is a difference in the parts that 'fit' into the sides of the tank)

I'm thinking it was designed around the plastic tanks.

::drool:: eccentric dual swing arm

Indeed - and they are keyed so you can't screw it up and have a diagonal axle, as I recall in threads we posted awhile back. JMC is www.swingarm.com (http://) and Metmachex is www.metmachex.com (http://).  If you have an ST-based Monster, you can get the super-trick trellis DSS swingarm from Moto Corse. Here's a real boner-maker:

almost makes me want to buy a newer-fangled Monster just so I can put one of those on it...

Here's that thread for those interested in a stiffer swingarm with uber good looks and features, but with a price tag to match:

www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=30714.0 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=30714.0)

Then again, if you are in Europe, Kaemna has one or two of the metmachex swingers for sale in their used section. (I think shipping would still be high to the US, albeit there would still be a substantial savings over new)

holy crap!  that swingarm is insane.  as for your seat man, i think the back looks fine - that front/tank fitment however . . .  [bang].  that would bother me.

I have the same issues with my 07 s2r with plastic tank.
not very comfortable to sit on either, like sitting on an ostrich egg.

As far as the solo seat, I inquired from seastarsuperbikes.co.uk a couple of weeks ago, and they replied that yes they are still available, but supply is critical. I really wanted to buy one, but after seeing the pics and reading others opinions on comfort, I'm glad I did not. The fit and finish really do not cut it. Also, the lines do not follow the tail light. My next step is to try and fab something similar using the front half of a stock seat and maybe the tail of a superbike. I know a lot of work would be involved, but if I could get the fit right, I will be much happier.

hmm...

I still think the solo-tail looks cool because it is unique. Fitment issues aside, the tail-light aspect has never bothered me. Seems like a great opportunity to fit something different there too if you don't like how it goes together.

The picture recently posted of a Monster with a 916-era tail on it did not really "do it" for me. But to each their own. If that's our attack plan, good luck to you. Just know ahead of time that the cut-outs in the tank that the stock seat fits into / covers are going to stick out like sore thumbs.

I have the opposite on the wall in my garage. A Monster-cowl design seat for a 916-998 era subframe and bike. I will take a shot of it - essentially the maker molded the front of a SBK seat piece (with regular monoposto SBK actual seat cushion able to bolt in) with a monster cowl.   No, it does not go as far back as the stock SBK seat, it just reaches pass the bracket on the OEM monoposto seat where the seat latches, so it would leave a whole lot visible (and potentially undesireably so) unless one was really going to do some more modifications.

but all in all, its neat-o.

From another thread I posted awhile back, I was looking for a particular front cowl for the monster that was for the track, no-headlight cutout. Well, I found it - and it goes with the seat cowl I also have. Both are Ducati Performance carbon pieces from the UK's Monster Cup race series. Here's a quick couple of glam shots for your amusement:

Not my pics, the seat cowl is the one I'm referring to, not this front fairing by any means...
(https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_4iYlZ1m8UEM/S0icfyV1-7I/AAAAAAAAFC8/bq2_QFK10gY/s800/monster-tail1.jpg)  (https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_4iYlZ1m8UEM/S0icgMwJwjI/AAAAAAAAFDA/0kcBKW6hhrM/s800/monster-tail2.jpg)

Here's mine:

And the matching front:

On a bike involved in the 'Cup back when:

The S4 Cup seat cowl kind of works like a normal monster seat cowl - the two under  seat mount points, but also affixes to part of the beer tray for stability. Goal was for better aerodynamics and sweet retro looks. It is bulbous as hell.  Going to find an un-chopped frame to turn into a Ducati "Trackster" at some point, using both the front Monster Cup fairings I have, the seat cowl, long belly pan, and a CA-Cycleworks track tank. And maybe some goofy logos for fun.

I've also looked at the Diopa stuff several times. I have trouble telling if, for the price, I would be getting carbon fiber, and what all is involved. Their website is relatively sparse (and I haven't been so interested as to make direct contact yet). I am hopping to hear back from Chris at Desmoworld.de regarding one of the Diopa mudguards currently. (perhaps a 'tester' for quality)

I think that seat  & cowl is from Radical Ducati...the "Monster JPS"

that cowl/seat looks different to radical ducati to me.. id say its a home made job.

main differences i see are the way the "RD" unit joins to the tank and the black one dusent. the "RD" is more rounded at the top of the cowl, and the "RD" also has its vents at the front lower while the other has vents at the back high. the "RD" also lacks the padded butt end stop thats on the black one
