hello everyone,
my '99 900 Dark has the dreaded Sachs rear shock & i think it has leaked all the oil and has lost it's charge.
is this thing repairable, or am i SOL...? i have the spring cranked on full and the damping is turned to
maximum already.
maybe i can get it re-gassed for the time being? currently i cannot afford to drop $400-600 on a used
Ohlins :-[ :'(
thanks for any advice. this really sucks....
you can find a replacment sachs online for a song sometimes. I got my a 999 shock for $20 + $100 ohlins spring and gave my sachs away for free to a forum member.
email eric@clubhousemotorsports.com ....our own ducvet...and ask him about fixing what you have vs. replacement.
He'll have the info you seek.
it is repairable.
Before considering repair look at the chrome on the rod. If the chrome is good ducvet can actually improve it. Worth it? Ask ducvet.
I just replaced my rear shock on my '96 M900. I don't know if this is the same as the one on your bike, or how much life it has left. It has 18,000 on it, but it is just taking up space right now. Let me know if you're interested.
cool! thanks everyone for the responses...this helps a ton.
Xarlo: i will send you a PM later today :)
I'm getting mine rebuilt right now for about $150. Here www.epmperf.com (//http://)
i dunno about the repair part, but you def need a heavier spring if you've wound preload all the way down and its still bottoming (partly due to blown damping circuits, i'd guess). you don't want to use the compression adjustment to compensate for what the spring should be doing
i've got a take-off sachs in my garage too with around 24-25k mi on it, but it def needs rebuilt. you are welcome to it too (pay shipping or mail me a beer) and can choose amongst the three for which is most repairable.
