Title: question about my new dry clutch... Post by: ♣ McKraut ♣ on June 12, 2008, 03:15:58 PM so, i bought a clutch pack off of a guy parting out a supersport... i went to put the center bushing/spacer in the hub, (and the large "washer" underneath) and see that there's a lot of play caused by a small gap (the black bushing in the pic is slightly taller/deeper fitting in this hub)...i'm guessing this should have been included with the hub, since it looks like the stock one isn't a perfect fit?)

Does it have the rubber cush-drive in it? yes, the hub is aftermarket... Vee Two out of Australia; billet aluminum. the seller actually just sent me this: Quote The hub needs to fit snug with no movement. I used the rough black washer which is a lock washer and then the nut. I did not use the black collar. The original hub uses a cush drive and the billet vee two hub doesn't so this may be the difference. You don't need the large washer with the cut outs for the spring posts. It's their for the OEM clutch with the cush drive also... Basically, bolt on the clutch basket, slide on the hub with the lock washer and nut, then slide in the clutch pack. Put the pressure plate on with the hole with the arrow lined up to the post with the slot and bolt it up. This bike was my 1st Duck and I did a lot of experimenting with the dry clutch because I was never happy with it until I got this set up in there. It was the best feeling clutch I had. so...looks like i should be good to go... Title: Re: question about my new dry clutch... Post by: ♣ McKraut ♣ on June 17, 2008, 08:26:51 AM If it the one I am thinking of from Vee Two there is no cush drive in the hub. yeah, i believe you are correct. however my other issue was upon installing the clutch basket, i realized that there are little "lips" that protrude slightly from the inner surface of the basket on the inside ring, next to each bolt hole, which prevent the basket from sitting flush against the surface where the bolts are screwed into (and would cause it to wobble somewhat if i installed it like that). i called nichols and they told me they've never had a lip there, and told me the person that sold it to me must have over-tightened the 8 bolts holding the basket. that sounds like a reasonable conclusion to me, but i asked the guy i bought it from and he said it sit flush in his supersport. so, i'm a little confused here... you can see one of them in the pic below... the large washer wear into the hub after a while, could that be the lip you`re refering to? In that case, nothing uncommon, much more on my 2 hubs. Title: Re: question about my new dry clutch... I may not be seeing what he's talking about. yeah, that's exactly what i was talking about...sorry i meant to do the red circles and forgot. after taking another look last night, i think it must have just been tightened too hard by the last owner. i ground down the lumps until they were flush and cleaned it off and installed it last night! [thumbsup] now once i have the wheels back on, i can test it out... |
