Post by: FIFO on March 10, 2011, 10:13:48 PM
The KV Claytons ride when we weren't having a ride [roll] [moto]
appears i have drawn the short straw :'(

8.30am:  Meet at Caltex Kirrawee - Nr Bates Drive and Princess Hwy, Kirrawee. Fuel up.
9.00am:  Depart, via the Royal National Park.
Stop briefly at Bald Hill (Stanwell Tops) to regroup, collect any others meeting here
Fuel Stop at Albion Park Rail (for the S4Rs) and regroup - there's no easy fuel at KV from memory.
MQ Pass, past the Pie Shop, through Robertson and onto Pearsons Lane to Kangaroo Valley
12.00pm: Lunch @ Kangaroo Valley
1.30pm:  Continue South via Camberrawarra Mountain.
At then end, back up to Albion Park via "Kiama International Speedway"
Fuel up and then back north via Mt Keira and the RNP again.

Cool, we'd usually go to the pub in the middle of town.
Stay tuned if it changes but the last couple of times we've been down there it's been the pub. Hope you can make it down.

Hi Rod
don't feel pressure to keep up to the pace of the faster bikes.
Just ride in your comfort zone  [thumbsup]
we will always stop and re group at any turn off so all arrive at the destination.

There is always in group rides the danger of the back markers ex ceding the speed limit
in an attempt to catch the main group with the potential of getting stung by Mr Plod  [leo]

My wife Luba is on a smaller capacity bike as well and
will be riding at the back of the pack so you will have some company  [thumbsup].

No-one should ever feel pressure to keep up with anyone.
Ride at your own pace as always, you will usually find people who are on the same bit of road with you.

So what time are we meeting Sunday?

8:30am for 9am departure?

Hey Matty, thanks for the reminder about DST.

It'll be a good thing - we did a little shake down run on the new tyres, and the lower half of the RNP was moss central.
Good for it to be a little later, and with the po-po action down there, good idea to keep the pace reasonable.

So just to confirm, we're meeting at 8.30 for a leave of 9am?
That means a meet up @ bald hill around 9.40am for a larger law abiding group!

Yep I just thought I'd put it in the thread that DST ends.
And yep I was going to let everyone know about the green growth all over the road in the second half of the park.
You could almost see a dry line between the green patches.

See you all at 8:30 at the Caltex remember, it's just before the other spot we have met at the Shell.

And the map for the day  (http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=203419174355975487906.00049a7aa92b7d545bbc5&ll=-34.381979,150.909576&spn=0.710622,1.454315&z=10)

Oh and remember that daylight savings starts *TOMORROW* -  Smartphone alarms tend to not honour daylight savings depending on the device and how you set the alarm (blah blah) so just be careful.

If anyone wants a wakeup call, PM Brian your number and he'll come over and rev the MV to redline out the front of your house.   [cheeky]

No that's a little further up and on the other side of the road.
The Caltex is on the same side as the Shell just 500-800 meters earlier.
>>>>It on the corner of Garnet Road. Opposite Bates Drive<<<< Here..... (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=garnet+road+cnr+Princes+Hwy+Kirrawee&aq=&sll=-34.026077,151.089306&sspn=0.01115,0.022724&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Princes+Hwy+%26+Garnet+Rd,+Sydney+New+South+Wales&ll=-34.025437,151.091087&spn=0.01115,0.022724&z=16&layer=c&cbll=-34.023777,151.089047&panoid=1AlYkve_BQEO9ryVoLbQ9A&cbp=12,42.99,,0,11.77)
You will be riding up to the same as meeting at the Shell, the street view is looking back at it heading North.

Nice ride back too Dock, except for that idiot in the van coming down Mac pass, thought he was Schumacher in a ferrari... and i had a moment when i passed that blue car after the 15klm hairpin, almost didn't make that pass... thought i was gone for a second...

I agree OZ for my first ride in almost 1 year it was great , although I don't think the 1198 was the right bike for the trip. In anycase most important, lots of smiles and no incident's.

A year! ummmmm 2 years more likely.
Last road ride was in the wet on Smart and it hasn't rego-ed for more than a year.

Yep great day, I think at one stage there was 21-22 bikes in the group  :o
Aside from the little loss of people trying the lead the Northies home it was a great day.
Chasing the OzMo folks down Mac Pass was a hoot and a half.

The beginning.

Thanks all for a cracking day.. That run up mac pass has to be one of my highlights of the year so far... Absolutely fricking brilliant!

Sorry for missing you all on the way home.. after the Brian making off with Luba debacle I did a quick petrol run at Helensburgh and missed the remaining group. All good, but didn't get to say proper g'byes.

Dez & Luba - glad to hear that all was okay .. I can only imagine the wide range of thoughts that must have been running through your head mate.. Never a doubt that things would be fine, but just not knowing must've been rubbish.

Brian - as usual, all class mate. Wouldn't expect anything less.

On to Matty's brilliant photog work...

Surely this is worth a caption competition..

Wow Rod, sorry to hear mate.. on the plus side, though, good to hear that you avoided any serious damage.
Good luck with getting it all sorted out, and good luck with the upcoming CSS.

Glad that Hambo was around to help dust you off.. Couldn't imagine anyone better for the task. I think it speaks volumes of the OzMo "fraternity" that ozmo's are keeping an eye out for each other.. Between this and Brian going way out of his way to make sure Mrs Two Dogs got back safe and sound I feel really proud to be a part of this thing... So thanks guys.

Cheers,

I too have a set of handlebars (sorry the levers and the masters went to bigiain)

Do you start to see a common thread of people with clip on conversions and spare handlebars?

Oh, and welcome to the "I stacked it on an Oz Monster ride" club. As the No 1 Ticket holder, I welcome you with open arms and a friendly smile!

Seriously, glad to hear it was a little one, with only a things on the bike that need fixing..
Oh, and at least the storm trouper outfit has some street cred now - perhaps you can tell stories of being on the death star when the rebels attacked.... (oh, and $400 for a dainese 1 piece is a friggen good excuse to buy it no matter what colour it is)

Rod firstly that's terrible and I'm glad you are fine if only a little shaken.
Also very happy you weren't on the way home alone and had someone there to help dust you off after your little get off.

With the luv going round here you are almost back on the road already, glad all the folks have a good collection of spare parts.

And I knew you would enjoy the storm trooper comment, excellent buy no matter what the colour.

Congratulations one and all for such an awesome turn-out. Glad you had a good time. Special mention to RobS, Craigo, Wells, J5, Rendang , Mostro and even Ducmonrob & Dockstrada (hope I didn't miss anyone).

I am a little concerned though that these rides south always tend to have a female participant 'disappearing' with a board member who is not their partner. Suzy, be careful if take Kristyn on another ride south with this lot ... which brings me to:

I was thinking similar things ... having seen the photos before your comment. Although there is one where she can be seen almost cracking a smile (well done Matty). I hope it wasn't too traumatic for her ... and how did the clip-ons go with a pillion?

This is the one worthy of the caption competition though (be mindful of the fact that I don't speak young persons text language):

Rod sorry to hear about your little incident ... it won't make you feel any better but it is quite common (front brake no good in those situations). ALways good to have a calming influence around in those circumstances ... well played Hambo.

Sorry to hear about your little incident Rod. At least you are safe and sound. I had a look, but I got no spares that match your needs.
Hope you're back on the road soon.  Road side pee's are still going to be needed when you go on longer rides, just give the rear brake more of a workout in the gravel!  [thumbsup]

ps. I've done the gravel too and not for a pee and a wee bit faster!  >:(

Hey Rod as Hambo said give that brake lever what it got in reverse you have nothing to loose.

Before I get into the true nature of my post, I would like to thank you guys for another great OzMo day, navigation and planning.
MV, thanks for Storm Trooper pics. eBay $400, I'm pretty happy with it and will be perfect for CSS. Maybe I'll just plaster it with Ducati decals to hide all the white before the next ride.

Please excuse my slightly off topic next paragraph..
I had an accident (read: brain fart) on the way back... you see, I had just past Bowral and was on the way to Mittagong and needed to pee and thought it would be a good idea to pee before I got onto the freeway. So I thought it would be a good idea to pull over to the side of the road... I slowed down and went onto the shoulder of the road (gravel) and applied the front brakes rather quickly due to a massive water filled pothole which popped out of nowhere. Needless to say, me and the bike hit the ground. Luckily enough Hambo was around 500 meters behind me and helped me settle my nerves and check the bike over.

Below is the damage. I think the Oggyknobs save the bike as only the rear brake bent back, back rear turn light, bent handle bar, a little cosmetic damage to bra and handle grips.

So, if anyone has spare set of handlebars, indicators or rear foot brake that they want to get rid of. I would be happy to take them off your hands for a good OzMo price!
