Title: Tips on finding womens gear??
Post by: Heath on March 11, 2011, 11:28:58 PM
The wife and I swung by Cycle Gear today to get an idea on sizes for her.  She gave me an idea of what she likes style wise.  Thank god its not pink butterfly or the pink icon chaps.  So we have done step one.  Next we need to find good deals.  I am a master at this but it seems no matter where I look womens gear is always right at MSRP.

I hit up eBay and craigslist with no luck.  I got super excited on motorcyclegear.com, had the jacket she wanted, had the size!!! It was on closeout!  Then I look again and realize the size seemed big.  Then oh, I am looking at a mens jacket. $R%@#$   so....
Any tips or places I am not thinking of?
Do I just need to wait it out for some used stuff to pop up?

but keep trying ebay, I've gotten a lot of stuff there.

I did try both of those thank you =)
I will keep an eye out on eBay and set up a search to warn me of stuff

She has great taste, which is a good thing, but finding a close-out deal on nice Stella jacket might be a bit of a challenge. Your best bet might be to find a dealer who wants to move some items from last year.

Or just get her what she wants [thumbsup]

Try Craigslook or any of the national Craigslist searchers. A lot of boys out there buy gear for their girl right away only to find out that its not worth dragging her out or causing their near crash. I've found some good stuff that way...but I've also found some crazy sized things like pants that were supposed to be my size but ended up fitting my boyfriend!

For general reference, Dainese and Rev'It have pretty fleshed out womens ranges and they are generally not scribed with flowers and butterflies.

check out iron pony.  always good women's gear on closeout there.   A few years back we got a Teknik  jacket/pant combo for under a hundred that G has crashed on the track wearing and it held up very well.

They currently have Teknik Venom jackets for 40 bucks and Fieldsheer jackets from $60.

Also check out jakewilson.com (good service) and motorcyclecloseouts.com (poor service, but sometimes good prices).  Ultimately I've found that my wife tends to keep gear for a long time and gets attached to it.  I don't mind spending whatever it takes to get her what she wants as it'll make her happy and she'll get loads of use out of it.  Sizing mens or womens of moto gear is crazy so be sure to try on the actual make and model if at all possible.

I hear ya on the sizes thing.  She tried on one Dainese jacket and couldn't zip it shut.
Wife:  "I thought you said this was a large Heath. Crap I am fat."
Me:  "no no you just have boobs.  Dainese always runs small on me too."
Wife: "So your saying you have big boobs too? ahahahah"
Me: :| "funny really funny"

So she tried on the Alpinestars in the same size and it fit good.

I found a discontinued style in her size on eBay.  She likes the jacket, said she would wear it.  I am afraid of buying it and it fitting totally different though.

My wife tried on a bunch of joe rocket jackets over the weekend and liked the fit.  The textile ones seemed a bit flimsy though and they don't make a perf leather in womens and solid leather is a bit warm for DC summers so we are still looking...

Pilot - Colemans in FC carries Rev'it. I'm not sure how much for the ladies, but if you're in that area could be worth a stop by. Though I tossed in with the other Italian devils before Rev'it really hit here, I've always been impressed with Rev'it stuff

I had alot of issues finding my jacket. When I went to cycle gear, even the smalls were way too big, the Sedici jackets fit super tight. I ended up going with a Scorpion, as I liked the way it was adjustable at the sides with snaps.
motorcycle-superstore has alot of great deals online! Just makes it hard to shop online when you can't try anything on :(

Any new ideas out there?
We're about to aquire a touring bike (BMW1100RS) so the Mrs will have some security the Monster did
not provide. Schedules dictate we won't be doing much riding in the heat of summer, but late spring / early fall stuff.
We'll have crap to shop locally, basic cruiser stuff especially the ladies. Chaps are ridiculous.
Vented leather would be ideal,  we'll add a separate outer rain layer.
I'd like to start with pants, jacket should be easy once that's chosen.

I've got Tourmaster textiles (Intake jacket and Flex pant) but for pants especially Mrs seevtsaab should
have something slightly more crashworthy.

Local we might find some Icon or Joe Rocket at least to compare sizing to shop MC Super-Store or Revzilla.

I would give a call to Frank's BMW in Essex Center, 878-3930.

Last time I was there they had a decent selection of ladies gear.

I have procured most of my gear for motorcycle superstore.  :-\

I really like the frogg toggs for outer rain gear.  It's softer and more comfortable than the vinyl crap.

I got two long seasons out of my last jacket, the pants are still fine.

Congrats on the new set of wheels!   [Dolph]

Thanks DD - we'll check em that's on the way to/from the grocery store!
My riding crew would not approve (no big fan's of Franks around) so I'll keep it on the sly.
We're liking (without seeing/trying) REV-IT Marryl or Gear pants, I figure everything else after pants will be easy.
I got Frogg Toggs - likely we'll go that route (additional wind protection is nice for cooler weather).

Bumping my old thread with an update.  I did end up getting her an Alpinestars Jacket off of eBay and the size fit from what we had tried on at Cyclegear.  During the summer though the jacket was just way too hot. We are going to hold on to it for now because it will make a good cold weather jacket. For Christmas I bought her a Rev'It Phoenix jacket.  Much more airflow, great protection and good build quality.  I can't comment on fit yet but because we have to wait for Christmas. :p

If it's Rev'it you seek or anything else for that matter tell Melissa or Tyler that Darin sent you and they will hook you with a discount, Coleman's FC will also price match against any online dealer as long as what you are getting is still available online.

The Rev'It Phoenix jacket was a hit!  We haven't been riding for a couple months but when we tried it out it worked great. She said there was a lot of airflow. I was impressed with the quality of the jacket. I foresee some Rev'It gear for myself someday.  One downside I was surprised the jacket didn't come with a liner. I am just so used to jackets coming with them.  Oh well this jacket is for the summer anyways.
