Title: Looking to start my first moto project!!
Post by: DukeDenver on March 12, 2011, 11:32:24 AM
Hello!
Lets see here, well.. Me and my friend are looking to start our first moto rebuild project.  As of now we have the garage all ready and tools good to go.

Except we are missing an important part, The bike!!  I have been searching and scouring the internets trying to find a bike that excites me into tearing it down to nothing and rebuilding it.  But all the good ones seems to be miles away.

Which brings me to the real reason for this post, do any of you have any wisdom to offer as to what means to use to procure bikes that maybe far away?

I live in Canada if that helps at all.  Any info would be great as we both have been bitten hard by the rebuilding bug!  And i know you guys love pictures of stuff all torn down  [bacon]

Also, Looking mainly for a Euro bike to work on!

Thanks for any help

I' m not really sure what you're asking, but couldn't you have it shipped.   :-*  www.uship.com (http://www.uship.com) is a great way to find a shipper.

Basically i was looking for any tips from any members who have bought a bike from a great distance away, who may have not even been able to see said bike in person.

I've never bought anything I couldn't drive to and see first hand, so I'm really unsure what to look out for.   ;D

if you've found the one you're set on, you can try calling a local bike shop and see if they will take a fee to go over and look over the bike... or you can ask the seller to bring it over to the bike shop.  you'll have to pay for the service, but you'll def get a good report on how the bike looks.

I bought my Monster sight unseen other than a picture. Talked with the owner, had it shipped and everything went fine.

i've bought 3 cars and 3 bikes off ebay/craigslist without ever seeing them first and had most of them shipped to me.  I've never had any problems.  I prefer ebay over craigslist because there are more safeguards built into their system.  in general, you just have to make sure you see lots of pictures, get lots of information, and overall feel comfortable with what the person tells you about the vehicle.  of course if you're going to tear it down and rebuild it is there really that much concern about the condition?  it seems like you'd be less picky in your situation.

Yeah, and i was more concerned with not getting said object at all, something along those lines.  Thanks for all the help so far guys!

All the input no matter how small is helping me to feel more comfortable moving on with this adventure  :)

if your planning on fixing it up and not reselling it you could look into a salvaged tilte bike, insurance co. total bikes for minor damages and can fix one up for relatively cheap.
