Title: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? Post by: Cher on March 17, 2011, 05:58:05 AM I'm trying to land on a fair price for my SBK - KBB currently has an "excellent" 999 base at $5450.00. Given my non-factory sticker kit, I know it will be difficult to get that price so given that, what to do you think is a fair asking price for my bike? (http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z234/n2f/P1000650.jpg) Most of you know this 2004 999 "base" pretty well inside and out. But for those of you who don't, here's a brief run-down: I bought the bike new in March of '05 from AMS/Alvarado with 500 miles on it. I am the only owner. The moto currently has 26,760 miles on the clock All service and maintenance work have been done at AMS at the recommended service intervals. All records for this work are itemized and cataloged in a folder that can be reviewed by any potential buyer. The 24k Service (with new belts, tires, chain and sprockets, and front fork rebuild) were just completed two months ago at AMS/Dallas. (http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z234/n2f/P1000651.jpg) This motorcycle is ridden at the very least weekly and I've taken it to numerous trackdays, extended trips through Arkansas and the Texas Hill Country. It has never missed a beat and has never once let me down. (http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z234/n2f/999/9-18-2010244.jpg) This 999 is the most reliable motorcycle I have ever owned, without exception. The motorcycle has both black keys and the Red Key. So. There you have it. What do you think this bike is worth? Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? Post by: LYD on March 17, 2011, 07:39:09 AM why do you want to get rid of it, moving up? (d16rr) 5500 is not a bad deal, especially how you have every service record?

Post by: Cher on March 17, 2011, 10:35:22 AM No, no shinanigans here, it's just time for a change and I'd like to replace the Duc with a larger sport/touring bike. I'm looking at these four: BMW K1200S; BMW K1300GT, Kawasaki Concours; and Kawasaki ZX-14R - all "pre-owned" of course [laugh] All are full-fairing motos with hard luggage, ABS and all the usual touring gadgets: (http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z234/n2f/bmw-k1200.jpg) (http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z234/n2f/2009-BMW-K1300GT2.jpg) (http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z234/n2f/2009-Concours-14.jpg) (http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z234/n2f/531-14.jpg) There's nothing wrong with my Duc and it has served me well - I just would like to try something new for a while [moto] Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? You're welcome to take it for another test ride (the hospital parking lot doesn't count). Maintenance is cheaper than the duc and other than a dead battery, it's never let me down over 25k miles. The '05 was the first year so I'd get an '07 or newer that has all the kinks ironed out. Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? Post by: fastwin on March 17, 2011, 01:55:37 PM MY EYES!!!! :o Can I have that click back? [bang] That's not pink, that's vomit pink! [puke] Who the hell would do that to a harmless, innocent Hayabusa? Another sign of the Apocalypse. [roll]
I know about the ZX-14s and you don't want to get one of the early model years. Nice scooters but the low and mid range were pretty weak compared to a Hayabusa of the same vintage. Kawi fixed it with some fuel re-mapping but I can't remember what year model that was. Hmmm, maybe 2008? A quick call to my Suzook/Kawi shop buddies will answer that. They are now way more up the "task" and equal to any Busa. They would make a really nice big block sport tourer for sure. Heli bars, ZG Double Bubble wind screen, luggage, tank bag... bingo, you're done. The Kawi Connie kicks butt too but like the original Connie it's REALLY heavy. Really shows up in parking lots and the garage. But, like my Busa, the weight does seem to sort of disappear once rolling. I know nothing about Bimmers. They're German right? ;D Good luck with the sale and the new purchase! OK... I'll be the first to break the ice and say it. You're going to miss the trip 9! Nice bike, seems like you could get pretty close to top dollar with your records and cleanliness. Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? Post by: TresGatos on March 17, 2011, 06:28:01 PM Wish I had the $ for it. good selling [thumbsup]

Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? Post by: Cher on March 18, 2011, 02:53:56 AM Thanks for all of the replies. I'm really leaning towards one of the bigger heavy cruisers like a Connie, ZX-14R, or Hayabusa. At this stage, the only bike on my list that I've actually ridden is Will's Beemer - which is a particularly awesome bike, btw. And the thing about the suggested Multis is they do not have full fairing wind protection. That variety of Ducati went the way of the ST2/3/4 series several years ago :'( Very sad. I need to do a lot more research before I pull the trigger on anything; I am not yet a walking encyclopedia of the Japanese motos on my list - but there's still time if I start cramming now [laugh] I'd also like to mooch a ride or two from anyone who might have one of these bikes just to see if the ergos work... But who knows; I might just splurge on a super sexy Burgman instead... (http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z234/n2f/burgman_400_sport.jpg) P.S. And Rob, don't EVER post anything that hideous and pink again... [laugh] [laugh] Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? Post by: CajunR on March 18, 2011, 05:24:19 AM P.S. Post by: muskrat on March 18, 2011, 06:52:30 AM I know where there's one of two Connie's for sale by a local forum member. Just saying. I'd go ride the new Multi before I said NO IMO. It had more wind protection than I imagined considering the size of that windscreen. Or you could hike up to Maxim to ride this

I'll loan you a test spin on my Busa. [thumbsup] And yes, the FJRs are very nice bikes. They used to dump a shit load of heat on the riders legs but they "fixed" that a few models ago with some fairing vent tweeks. But being a 999 owner you know all about heat. Still keep that bottle of BBQ sauce in your jacket pocket on hot days?? [laugh] And speaking of VFRs forget the new ones go over to Al Lambs on LBJ and buy the brand new, zero miles left over 2007 in the limited retro red, white and blue livery of the 1986 model!! Hubba hubba!! Honda is still trying to GIVE them away!! I keep finding reasons to go over there and buy more Honda spray polish just to look at it. I now have a cabinet full of spray polish and still no VFR! [bang] Tens of thousands of happy VFR riders can't be wrong. [thumbsup] The new one kinda scares me, looks like a Transformer holding it's breath and about to explode. [laugh] Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? Post by: Raux on March 18, 2011, 12:12:21 PM I still think a few changes and the 999 would be an awesome tourer
Quat D Exbox or ST4S style exhaust Lowered pegs clipsons with 3" rise touring wind screen MTS or ST hard bags Sargeant custom seat edit: hmmmm given me ideas Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? Post by: monsterchic on March 18, 2011, 02:41:51 PM Dax told me you had this thread out...just an FYI, but we have two Connie's, one of which I want to sell. I'll shoot you a PM about it.
We haven't gotten to ride together yet on one of the local runs, but my fiance and I both ride Monsters and we both have Connie 14s (08 and 09), but she's 5'3" and sick of the Connie :). She loves her < 400lb S2r, so one's gotta go :). Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? Post by: Cher on March 18, 2011, 04:01:01 PM Very cool. Thanks everyone for your input and advice. I'm still not exactly sure which direction I want to go with this but I'm building up the data base pretty quickly... What a gear head dork [bang] [laugh] Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? Post by: Cher on March 19, 2011, 06:53:14 PM Well, I've decided to keep my 999. I can always boot the car out of the garage and make more room for a Sport-Tourer if I need to go that route eventually... And I guess if the car becomes an outdoor dog, then there's all kind of room inside the garage for more bikes... Hell, there's always the entry foyer too. This just might work out [evil] Thanks again for all the input, and a special thanks to LYD's 748 [beer] Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? Post by: LYD on March 19, 2011, 09:42:59 PM Thanks again for all the input, and a special thanks to LYD's 748 [beer] Lisa, why the 748? what did it do. and yes there's always room for another bike. When we were in ohio, during the winter I parkedboth monsters in the formal dining room. (damn, I have a great wife) like i said there's always room for another bike. and when I feel more comfortable on the 748, I will take you up on letting me ride the 999. ;D plus i didn't realize how close we live near each other, just give mea call if you want to go for a ride! Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? Post by: TXGrillGuy on March 19, 2011, 11:12:27 PM FJR? At one of the bike shows, it was surprising how easy the FJ was to pick up off the sidestand and balance compared to the concours. I'm with Webspoke on the FJR. I've ridden both it and the Concours but like the FJR more, hands down. But of course, I bought the 2008 Multistrada too. :) Good luck to you. I don't know exactly but when you start taking bodywork off and start to study everything that's underneath - the design, the compactness, the engineering and quality - that goes into making a Duc, well, they're just pretty damn cool. And I've already got one. How cool is that. Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono? Post by: system error on March 20, 2011, 05:07:31 AM Well, I've decided to keep my 999. Well said! My personal mantra that I have lived by for years. Hmmm... which one gets ridden today? [laugh] I may someday be pennyless, broke and homleless but the bikes and I will still be together living under a downtown bridge beneath a tarp!! [laugh] Good call on the trip 9 Lisa. It never hurts to re-elvaluate your options and take a second look at what you have. There have been times where I have been tempted to ditch a sbk and get a KTM or Ape super moto. But I think I like the idea of keeping my drivers license too much to do it. ;D Title: Re: FEELER: Fair selling price for my 2004 999 SBK, mono?
