Hi all,
I have a 2007 S4RS and recently it started doing this:
When the bike is not warmed up (or at least I think this is the reason), the speedometer needle jumps around. I think it does it more when I go over bumps. After a few minutes, it starts to show the speed but it releases and falls to 40 and then it jumps back up to the correct speed. It does this for 10-20 minutes and finally it starts showing the correct speed without any more problems!
This shows that all the connections are there and everything is in working condition. Maybe a loose connection? Any help would be much appreciated.
Is the speedo on the 2007 S4RS mechanical or electrical (sensor)?
It is electrical.
Sensor on the rear wheel.
I rode it 250 mi today. It has nothing to do with bumps. It just jumps around even after the bike is warmed up. I am wondering if there is anything going on with the sensor.
Also sounds like an loose connection somewhere. Maybe an internal pin of a pin connector is not properly crimped to the wire.
Good luck sorting it all out.
Damn, today I just developed a similar issue. Can you tell me if your gauges do the startup sweep?
I have an 07 S2R 800 that does the same thing. The gauges sweep on start up, the tacho works, the lights all work and the display shows mileage, but the speedometer quit working...thoughts?
a very common problem with these gauges is the needle coming loose from the pin on which it pivots. that may be what is accounting for the jumping needle and now non function.
It doesn't sound like the same issue I'm having, but I figured I would chime in in case it happens to someone else. I'm currently having charging issues (I THINK it's narrowed down toe the R/R) and my speedo gauge started acting really erratic on the highway as a result. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but a few miles down the road the bike lost power and could hardly throw the starter solenoid, much less start the bike and I know the stock rectifiers are not the highest quality.
have you guys checked your sensor on the wheel? maybe swap with someone who has a good sensor
