Gutless Triumph
been out yesterday and today on my 2001M750 and old 1991 750ss with my friend Steve on his Triumph Thruxton 900 , he is a very quick rider on his usual old 1971 Norton Commando 750 and that keeps up with my 750 Ducatis easily but his 1 year old Thruxton cannot , in midrange i always get 400yds up the road in seconds even when he gives it loads and top speed is at least 15mph more than the gutless Bonny , he has a jack lilley aftermaket exhaust and fuel maps so it sound great but it really is all looks and no go. on paper the bikes should be equal but in reality the Ducatis **** all over the thruxton , we swopped bikes but it made no difference.

IIRC the Triumph 900s only make around 60HP, the Scrambler version even less. They do have nice torque figures.

I bought a Thruxton for my fiance for her first bike, purely because it is such a gutless thing. it will do over 100...eventually. when I ride it I just pretend its a super dialed in XS650 and not a 2005 ~$9k at new, 900cc bike.
They are cool bikes, but definitely not intended to be fast. Triumph has plenty of other things that are fairly quick, the thrux and similar I think are made to evoke a bygone ere.
i had considered one, but couldnt comprehend owning something so heavy. weight has to have a large role in the awful performance.
Bikez.com has the Norton at 430 lbs. wet weight and the Thruxton at 452 lbs dry weight.
So the Thrux is all show, no go. I still think its a sexy bike.
