Title: Carbon termi - 696 to 796?
Post by: zLoki on March 23, 2011, 01:11:30 AM
Hi everyone, I'm considering a change from my 696 to a 796.  Wondering if my 696 carbon termis will fit a 796?  Anyone know if I can swap these?

Good news! The cans will swap just fine  [thumbsup].

Bad news! The ECU is not interchangeable  [thumbsdown].

but you can reflash the old ecu to a new one for around $250 at desmoporsche...

what i dont know is if you can reflash a 696 ecu to a 796 ecu...  i'm guessing probably, but i would give them a call just to make sure.

I'd be very wary before I attempted to relash an ECU from one model with mapping intended for another.  Even if the software re-write goes fine there could be other issues...  Are the ECU's pinouts the same??  Not saying its not possible, just that I'd be doing plenty of research beforehand.    If you were gonna go the ECU reflash route, then IMO a better option would be to have your stock 796 ECU flashed to DP spec instead.
