As mentioned in the weekly evening meet up thread, Steve and I have kicked the idea of a race day meet a few times and I thought I'd give the concept its own thread.
With that in mind, I had considered asking the owner of Sfizi's if he would want to host iffin' we were to get enough interest. So with that in mind, who would be inclined to join in? If Fairfax isn't a good spot, what other suggestions do you guys have?
And finally, is anyone doing anything for WSBK tomorrow? :D
Quote from: DRKWNG on March 26, 2011, 03:25:53 PMAnd finally, is anyone doing anything for WSBK tomorrow? :D
watching it here at home....you are more than welcome to join us!
I'm down for that. Can't promise I'll make it everytime.
If I don't got to VA tomorrow to see a man about a triple, I might invite myself to Zoooom's if folks are gonna gather.
I'd be down for meeting tomorrow for WSBK - what time is it airing? Tivo time?
Not down for tomorrow but I'm up for another time. Subscribed.
Someone asked... WSBK is on Speed from 3PM - 5PM.
I've already got plans for the race tomorrow but I'll keep an eye on this thread for future gigs. Cool idea!
I am interested in WSBK boozefest.
Ok, so how far would people be willing to travel if we were to do this at a restaurant/bar?
Pick a spot.
Well, I was mostly thinking about the next race day after today. Sfizi's is an option that can be explored, but would require people to make their way out to Fairfax. We could also look into something like Buffalo Wild Wings in Crystal City. It's pretty central, and is already a sports themed local. Maybe they'd be willing to dedicate a tv or two to us?
Do it
Ok, talked to BWW. They don't have a problem with dedicating a tv or two (depending on the size of our group) over to the races unless they are slammed for a specific game. The person I spoke with said there is a VCU game on this afternoon though, and they were expecting to be slammed with that. So... Looks like we've got an option for next time.

DRKWNG's gonna ride it over to Tocino's next weekend for a little suspension dialing and I'll be charging a large fee to folks for rides. ;D

I might be game, depending on the weather. If it's nice I'm riding (and watching later, after I rip it off RU).
What other sporting events are on this Sunday? Are there still ?ball games to contend with? If not, let's do BWW. They've already told me that they'll give us a tv or two depending on the size of our group.

Come down and do the Bowie run with us?
Shoot me the time and place.
Ballpark Rd Sunoco (right off RT301), it's the usual spot.
I might have some stuff to do in the morning, but I'll come watch the race.
Ok, so who's in? I'll need an idea of how many people are coming if I'm going to try and get a tv for us.
Still in. What time is this Bowie shindig at the Sunoco?
Usually meet there at ten.
I'm down for watching the race. Where and when is all I need to know.....
If this relies on Speed - well, they're showing the race at 8AM. Maybe it's live?

I don't mind hosting - gonna watch it anyways. Plus I'll have the Moto2 so no waiting until Tuesday.
I've already downloaded the first two FP sessions. Haven't started watching them though...
I'll stay tuned, but I've got hockey at 1100. It seems my best shot will be to catch the race at 800 unless you all decide to do something later in the day.
Looks like it will be later. That way we can get a ride in, and then have a recreational beverage while watching. I'd say it's safe that we'll sit down to watch sometime after five? Thoughts?
My day is wide open, so after 5 is fine. Also, where are you playing hockey? I've been looking for a place between pure amateur and semi-pro to start playing again. I'm not bad but I'm rusty too...
I'm thinking 7 or 8. I've got a climbing date from 3 to 6. That is if people want to come by and watch the action at my place. I figure Moto2 then MotoGP. There will be some pizza ordering action if anyone hasn't already eaten by then.
And there I was thinking you were asking if people wanted to come and watch the action at your climbing date... [roll]
Ok, so the race will be on either at my place or casa di [bacon] tomorrow evening. Ted, you still in?
Yup, ride is still happening yes? Just tell me where to be.

I don't know of any traveling teams up your way, but there's got to be a rink near you. If so there are classes and men's leagues. I'll ask around my network for any recommendations.
I play in a few different leagues depending on the time of year and peer pressure. My "home" rink is Kettler Capitals Iceplex (heading over there right now, in fact) here in Arlington but I've done leagues out in Reston/Herdon area, too.
I'll check back mid-afternoon... Have a nice ride!

I'm thinking Melandri is going to Max's undoing this year.
Definitely a good chance - Marco has the motivation after Max's "slap", and now I'm rooting for Melandri. I thought the Roman Emperor had mellowed a bit, but apparently not.
Anyone know what the air time on Speed is?
What about this restaurant that was mentioned, or does someone want to host?
The weather on Sunday looks good, maybe on the coolish side.
I think I'm going to be out riding, as I'll be out of town on the next weekend.
Will be watching the racing afterwards though...
I am going to be finishing up the event I am crew-ing this weekend...so I am more likely to watch the races on the DVR either Sunday night or Monday night...

MotoGP at LeMans this weekend. Bridgestone to debut new asymmetrical tire. Various riders to engage smack-down systems.
If people want to come by my place (712 Gist Ave 20910) for an 8pm viewing of the EuroVision feed (Moto2 then MotoGP) please come by. Give me a heads up so I know how many folks might be there. We could order pizza if folks wanted. There *might* be some home-brew farmhouse ale for a tryin'.
from MotoGP.com:
This Sunday, the Ducati Team will take on the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France for the fourth round of the season, at the Le Mans circuit. It is often described as a 'stop and go' circuit because it does not flow from turn to turn. Nearly every corner is preceded by a straightaway â€" some long and others shorter â€" creating a situation where riders brake particularly hard and then accelerate abruptly.
Historically, it has proven to be a demanding track for the Ducati, which has nonetheless twice made the podium, with Loris Capirossi in 2006 and with Casey Stoner in 2007, while Nicky Hayden actually achieved his best result ever at the track aboard the Italian bike, with a fourth place last year.
Valentino Rossi has earned three victories, in 2002, 2005 and 2008, along with another four podiums. All of these were in MotoGP, as the French GP was held at Le Castellet when he raced in the 125 and 250cc classes.
Count me in.

Anyone for a MotoGP viewing this weekend? Ducati is putting the 2012 frame around the GP11 and letting Rossi have that. It'll also have a new gearbox ("DST - Ducato Seamless Transmission). They're calling it the GP11.1 (seriously). Goes to show a) how bad the current frame is and b) how good Stoner was. Nicky will get the 11.1 at Laguna.

Pace should be pretty reasonable, no ham sammiches. It all depends on whether I can get the bike back together this weekend from the fork swap. Shouldn't be a problem because all I need to do is bleed the brakes and modify the cluster cowl to fit with the new brake line routing, but I can't commit to it until that is done.

Ducati Building Aluminium Chassis As Parallel Project
"The focus of much of the fans' anger and the paddock's scepticism has been Ducati's monocoque carbon fiber chassis ...
Crucially, the criticism has come not just from outside of Ducati, but both Valentino Rossi and his long-time crew chief Jeremy Burgess as well. Both Rossi and his crew chief have called for Ducati to run a parallel project to design an aluminium chassis to test whether such a chassis would bring an improvement ...
It appears that Rossi and Burgess are to get their wish. French journalist Thomas Baujard of the magazine Moto Journal has uncovered that Ducati are currently building an aluminium chassis for the Ducati Desmosedici."
