Title: GPS mount for Garmin Nuvi
Post by: speedknot on March 26, 2011, 06:12:59 PM
I just picked this up off ebay for a few bucks.  Nice quality.  Fits my Nuvi 265WT.  Road test to follow.  I do alot of exploring so its hard to whip a map.  Having a GPS will be a nice addition to my ride.  This mount installs and releases quickly so it doesn't always have to be on the bike.

nice, looks good... i'm interested to hear how it holds up while riding... wind & vibration knock it around or not... is there a safety strap of some sort ot make sure that it doesn't go bouncing the highway?

I am a bit concerned about it getting knocked off.  I dont doubt the mount will hold up but the way the ball pops into the socket is kinda weak.  With a good head wind and going 70mph, there is a slim chance it could get knocked off the mount.  Or maybe it will be fine.  Who knows.  I'll have to see about a tether or something.  Because some of those concerns you mentioned were on my mind, I started tinkering with a lower, center mount for it.

Here's a pretty cool option from Givi, especially if you don't have/need a dedicated motorcycle GPS:

And a little review/write-up with more info:

Got a link for it?

I took the GPS for a 22 mile test drive.  All went fine till I pulled into my driveway and that's when the Garmin mount popped out.  The handlebar mount is fine but the way the ball fits into the Garmin OEM socket is the weak link. :(

i have that same mount. it's made by RAM mounts, and is available from Whitehorse Gear (and probably other places....) there are many different options for how the GPS holder actually mounts to your bike. works great!
