Now that my SS track bike is sold, Im looking for a sporty type bike to ride on the street and occasional track day.
999 is on my mind.
Looking for 2005 or newer base model.
There's nothing close to me that's not all hacked up so I'm branching out.
It really doesn't matter where it is in the country. I'll ship it in.
I've scoured ebay, cycle trader and craigslist and not really come up with much.
I did find a great one about 10 hrs from here but it sold 2 weeks ago :(
Help a brotha out!

I'd rather the bike in Rockville to be honest. That paint job really kinda doesn't. But hey just doing as you instructed, helping you find a 999...
The RAM Cycles bike has been for sale about 2 years now. I'd haggle 'em on it. Surely they want it gone.
I saw a couple of nice ones on ebay motors just yesterday. Even a brand new, zero miles Parts Unlimited... if you go for that and a Xerox R model. The PU bikes are "S" models after all and the last of the line.
An '05-'06 is where it's at. Mine's an '05. You hardly ever see an "S" model pop up for sale in those years. For good reason, people hang onto them. All that Ohlins goodness and radial brakes. Better swingarm on the '05-'06 bikes and cleaner look to the upper fairing. No more "jack-o-lantern" vents.
Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with the early models either. Just some minor improvements on the later model. Of course that should mean better pricing on the originals if you find a clean one. I know psychedelic/Josh found a real nice clean low mileage "S" model (can't remember if it's '03 or '04) last year at a shop. It had some ECU and some other aggravating issues but they eventually got sorted. Drop him a PM and get his take. I certainly love mine. [thumbsup]
Good luck on the search. [popcorn]

This guy has been posting up in the Pittsburgh Craigslist for literally almost 2 years on that bike.
Nobody will buy it for some reason. His price has gone down significantly from where it started.
The paintjob is just awful IMO, otherwise I would hav considered it a while ago.
If you're looking in this area, you'd think black and gold would be more popular ;)
That really is a bad paint job. They have another 999 that looks like it's been through chipper shredder for 4200 with a salvage title. I get the feeling they buy whatever they can at auction cheaply, clean it up and turn it around to make a few dollars.
The bike at Ram has been sold :(
Here is a black one. Lots of bling. Not down with the wheel stripes, but maybe it looks better in person.

That one looks like a winner.
cept it's priced nearly 2K more than it's worth. $7K...MAYBE. 8500 is dream dream territory for a 999.
I bought a 999R last year before winter for 9200....a 05 w/7k miles. Bought a 749R a month later for 8250...was an 05 w/3K miles on it.
Prices right now are retarded high because people think the spring weather adds 2-3K to the value of their bike....it'll come down soon enough. Happens every year :)
999SP? I've never heard of one. There's the new 1198SP but I don't think a 999 version exists. If one was ever released I was in a coma. Of course that's not uncommon. [laugh]
I pm'd the guy. I don't think the price is too far out of line based on my observation of the market.
Also, I know prices fluctuate with the seasons. This year, though, I don't think they're going to drop as much as they have been in years past.

if you are searching on craigslist but want to search all of craigslist, then just go to allofcraigslist.org or allofcraigs.com

Nice score ML!! That looks like a really nice, upgraded 999. He basically turned it into an "S" which is what I'm doing to mine. Still kicking myself for not getting the "S" on the front end. [bang] Got the base model and a great deal on the full Termi/ecu package. Note to self: never get a stupid exhaust over full Ohlins and radial brakes!!!! His hp rating is spot on. Mine makes one hp less with the full Termi.
Enjoy the 999. You'll love it!
Thanks man! Also, you're better with the base model. The S & R bikes that have Ti rods need more love. Ducvet tells me they need serious rebuilds every 15k or so.
I tend to ride my bikes so the S & R is out. Base is enough bike for me so I bought pretty much exactly what I wanted.

My error. It is a 996 SP. It is a track only go fast version from 2000 model year. Sorry for the confusion.
According to Ian Falloon's book the only Tamburini SP bikes were 916s. In 1994 and '95 they were basically the same. In '96 it became the SP3. Some '96 bikes became 955cc SPAs (Sport Production America) as homologation specials for AMA racing in the States. And in '97 it was the 916SPS, which I have. The SP line up did have spruced up motors with larger valves, more radical timing, etc.
Could your buddy's bike been a 996SPS? A local friend has one of those. My 916SPS actually has a 996 motor again for homologation purposes, even though it's still called a 916. [bang] No biggie, just wondering. Over the years it's been a job keeping up with Ducati's "special line up" of bikes. Lots of alphabet soup!! [laugh]
